Pros

Worked closely with industry professionals. Learned a lot through hands on experience. Looks great on a resume for future publishing work.

Cons

The stipend is small for the amount of work that is expected.

Pros

The internship program at Folio is designed to get interns familiar with the basics of every part of the publishing industry, from foreign rights to book auctions. It's important to work for an agent whose tastes are similar to yours--I was lucky and felt very in sync with my agent, and that made the work a lot more fun and meaningful. I now feel much more confident moving forward in the publishing industry, and I know that the agency is very supportive of former interns throughout the job search.

Cons

This is an unpaid internship, and if you don't already live in NYC you'll need to figure out some way of paying for your time there. Otherwise, no real disadvantages.
