Micromanagement & Favoritism

Pros

The customers can be fun and the hours go by fast

Cons

When I was working here, the woman they hired for management made me cry several times. She would scoff and roll her eyes at me and blame me for things I didn’t do like leaving something in the coffee machine when I wasn’t even working with it or asking why certain containers weren’t cleaner in front of other employees. I really had a bad experience here. Plus there were times I couldn’t get my tips because it was short staffed and if I didn’t rush to the jar towards the end, it would’ve been taken. It was super tiring physically and the manager micro manages and sets you up for failure by looking for issues with your work

Great Option For Students / Short Term Work

Pros

-It's a great role to have if you like to serve & socialize with customers; my manager said once something along the lines of it's a 'people' shop not a 'coffee' shop (that sounds wrong, I forget verbatim). Anyways my point is that part of the job is to have a great attitude and you can see it reflected in your coworkers and the customers that come in. -Most people that come in are students or just in to work on something or of course just stop in for a quick coffee before work, so in my personal opinion it's a good group of people to have as customers since they seem to generally be focused on their education/career aspirations. -It isn't very tough work, I think if you have a good attitude & work ethic & are a good fit you should have nothing to worry about in the interview -Everyone that works here is super friendly -You get (although relatively small, especially during evening shifts) tips -Free meal every shift (you'll likely get sick of the food eventually though) -Overall it's a great place to work if say you're a student that lives in the area and need some extra funds

Cons

- [At the moment] the schedule for the week Tues-Mon typically comes out the Saturday before, so it makes it very hard to plan your next week if you don't have very specific availability, and for whatever reason it is frowned upon to have shifts switched/covered, so this is literally on my mind every time I need to make a plan for the next week - Minimum wage (currently $12 in 2019, I believe will increment every year until 2023) - The expected "dirty work" of mopping, cleaning bathrooms, etc., and (in my opinion) it isn't exactly fair that you get the dirty work as part of an evening shift, but you're likely to make $30 more in tips when working a morning shift, which is always busier, but I personally enjoy a busier environment
