Pros

Many of my coworkers were compassionate, positive people who chose to work with this population because they want to. The clients can be challenging at times but overall, a joy to work with. Good starting point if you want to gain entry level experience in this field.

Cons

Constant budget deficits and funding cuts during my time employed at FLC. Management was constantly cutting corners as a result (eg, shifting around staff members, redistributing caseloads, not replacing employees who left). This led to more burnout, high turnover, more frustration. The quality of service offered to clients is made of good intentions but frankly low quality due to finances of the company. Room for growth/moving up was either limited or the grass really doesn't seem too green up there... Union fees are required yet lack of responsiveness from union reps. Individual pay raises were next to impossible due to union.

I appreciate your feedback and take it seriously. Running a service agency that relies on Medicaid rates is a huge challenge but we are always looking for ways to improve. Your feedback will inform our efforts. --Dave

Pros

Impactful work, fun and fascinating clientele, strong local reputation

Cons

Depends on what you want to apply for. The union that represents many (but not all) roles at the agency isn't that great (SEIU 775), and they charge a higher percentage in union dues to their members than any other union in the state even though their membership is made up of some of the lowest-level income earners. It's frustrating and doesn't seem right.
