Pros

Office is newish and nice enough, though the acoustics and lighting are terrible. There’s one really nice principal who is responsible for redlining drawings and detailing. He’s a good person and the only one who is genuinely interested in seeing people succeed.

Cons

The president sits and watches Fox News when he even bothers coming to the office. Has issues with his anger and trouble feeling genuine happiness or empathy toward staff who work hard for him. Another principal goes out of her way to make people look bad, she uses tactics including withholding information to purposely make people fail, and then kicks them when they’re down. She selects a target and then picks at them, talks down to them, and makes them look bad in front of the entire office. Her target rotates every few months, everyone watches this happen and nothing is done to stop it, she was promoted to principal either in spite of, or perhaps due to, this behavior. Project managers get the bulk of this treatment, that’s why they rarely stay more than a year, but junior staff are not immune. The senior level people here are not interested in teaching junior staff so you will do work that you aren’t given feedback on. It could be amazing work, it could be terrible work, you will most likely never know. There is zero trust between the ownership and other staff. They default to assuming the worst about people which makes it a depressing environment to be in. Designs here are boring and derivative, led by an uninspired senior designer. You will be encouraged to reuse ideas, not to be creative. They don’t want you to waste time selecting new things when you can just grab some finishes from the last project. The office has old fashioned rules and strict hours that are considered “really flexible” by the management. You can arrive between 8 and 9am and have to stay until 5 or 6pm, but you’re not working “hard enough” if you don’t arrive well before 8 am. Benefits are given and taken away on ownership’s whim. They’ll just send out an email saying you no longer get it and if it’s questioned you’ll be given the standard reply that it’s their right to take anything away they want. Don’t count on any benefits they promise.

It is unfortunate that after leaving the company so long ago, you still feel compelled to malign and post such hostile and malignant reviews. This saddens us but we have to accept the fact that the world is filled with very different and diverse individuals who will always look at the glass as half empty. We choose to see the positive, inspiring and uplifting rather than trying to fabricate and hyperbolize the negative. We strive every single day to be better than the day before - and will continue to grow the company in an ethical. collaborative and principled way. We wish you luck as you (hopefully) move on to the next step in your career.

Pros

Snacks. Very cool phone booth.

Cons

The office severely lacks any senior level staff and this is mostly due to inadequate and impersonal management. The female principal is especially brutal and unforgiving. As long as she gets what she wants and needs, she couldn’t care less about what hoops you have to jump through to get there. They think that having snacks in the office is a selling point to work for them, but in reality... it’s their only redeeming quality. There is zero flexibility or trust. Hours are long, and uncompensated overtime is expected daily. They’ll hold it against you if you don’t come in early and stay late every day. Working remotely is usually not an option unless there is severe weather, but you can expect your computer activity to be monitored. Strict hours and inflexible schedules make personal appointments (doctors, dentists, etc) nearly impossible. Don’t expect to have any sort of personal life in the few spare hours you have outside of work. They’ll tell you that’s normal wherever you go… it’s definitely not and it’s unhealthy. They are no strangers to giving threats. The turnover rate for designer and project manager positions is extremely high. This is mostly due to the cruelty of the female principal. Almost all of their project managers are just a few years out of college, mostly because they can’t hold onto any proper senior level staff with the right amount of experience. Projects are plentiful so it’s true that you won’t be twiddling your thumbs, bust most projects lack any kind of interesting aspects that keep designers excited or enthusiastic.

As you are clearly a disgruntled former employee, we are saddened that you harbor these negative perceptions of our company. It is your right to express your views, however much we may disagree and find them inaccurate, but we feel it is truly inappropriate to single out individuals and disrespect their privacy. To state your opinion is the reason for this forum, but a personal attack on someone’s character is unacceptable. We are flagging this post as Inappropriate.

Worst place I have ever worked

Pros

Good exposure to the design and construction process for office build outs.

Cons

Terrible management and a negative work environment has lead to the companies inability to keep talented and experienced designers. They are rude, condescending and disrespectful. Do not expect to get praise or recognition for awards and achievements at Fusion - the owner believes in "breaking people down" instead of building them up.

We appreciate the feedback - but are very surprised and disappointed at your review. At Fusion we strive to create a positive and collaborative team environment. We expect everyone to be respectful to every single employee - that includes the principals down to the most junior designer. We have several processes in place to provide praise, recognition, acknowledgement, promotions and bonuses. If we were aware of your negative perspective, we would certainly have tried to ameliorate the situation and solve any issues causing the negativity.
