Pros

Office environment as a whole is lively and very friendly. Lovely people in different departments.

Cons

The SLT team in the estates team are terrible people minus one. They do not treat people of colour nicely hence why there is no representation or diversity there whatsoever. Rather than helping you find your feet as a new person, they’re busy building a case against you by tallying all your mistakes or times you’ve asked for help, to then use against you. Certain key people in the team wouldn’t even greet me or speak to me and would act like I didn’t exist. My existence wouldn’t be acknowledged at all. They nit picked at every little thing and became unhelpful and mean. There is a bullying culture that thrives here and is swept under the rug. If one person doesn’t like you, they all turn on you and treat you less then. It’s as if we were back in secondary school, very childish behaviour from grown adults. I felt very left out and isolated as I wasn’t shown respect and dignity. Instead, I was gaslighted continuously and manipulated throughout my short time here. They did everything in their power to build a false narrative against me, turned people against me and got rid of me because they simply didn’t like me. I was hired to help with statistics for diversity , not because it’s something they truly wanted. The department is notoriously known for having a high turnover time as they’re always getting rid of someone; more specifically the role I did. Unconscious bias and micro aggressions thrives in this department. Other departments know that this team are problematic but a blind eye is turned always. They caused me so much stress and turmoil that my mental health deteriorated significantly and I had several breakdowns at work which people noticed. Yet, my team did not care at all. I’ve never worked with such evil people in my life before. A company that is supposed to empower women and give you confidence, did the complete opposite to me and they had no remorse about it. Clearly, they only care about the well-being for girls who look like them. Truly disgusting. I would not recommend working in this place at all if you know what is good for you and you are not white.

Abysmal place to work

Pros

The coffee machine is quite good.

Cons

I would avoid working at the GDST at all costs. There is an incredibly unpleasant working environment in the Trust Office, with mistrust, bullying and a culture of fear. Senior leadership will speak outwardly about making girls “fearless” and that “nothing will hold a girl back” and then they will openly express racist, sexist and generally outdated attitudes and opinions. You are discouraged from having an opinion and those that do are alienated and picked on by senior management. Feminism in any form is dismissed as “man-hating”. The chasm between the external impression the GDST wants to portray and what is happening in the schools and trust office is vast. If you choose to work here, at the very best, your life will be frustrating and unfulfilling. At worse, you will (like many of the other people who work there) by signed off for stress, have a nervous breakdown or be bullied out by management. Horrible, nasty place to work. Avoid!
