You will work with a wide array of technologies, and troubleshoot countless problems. However, MSP's can be brutal, especially this one for the reasons mentioned above. If you are an experience engineer/administrator, there are MUCH better jobs out there. Why settle for a place like this when you can work at Google, Facebook, or a similar company?

We are sorry to see this review as it contains a lot of inaccuracies. We believe we know who this is and this is an individual that worked for the company for about two months. During the interview process, this individual made comments that we should have taken to heart more and we should not have extended an offer. While this individual had very strong technical skills, the individual said they did not want to work 40 hours if they could get their job done in less than 40 hours. Yes, we are very busy as we are constantly striving to present the best possible technologies. If you are able to get your job done in less than 40 hours, you can research/learn new technologies, help others on the team, or any number of tasks. As for the chaotic work environment and unrealistic expectations - we agree this could have been better for this individual. This individual started their employment when their manager was out on paid leave, so they were not put in the best position to succeed. Ideally, moving forward, we will coordinate the start date for new employees to match when their direct manager is available to help with the ramp up process. As for benefits, we have heard from some people comments like this individual mentioned and we have heard from others that our benefits are not only very good, but VERY reasonably priced. We think it depends on what type of company you come from (larger companies are often able to negotiate better benefit prices). With that said, we are taking a further look at how to improve this. We do have a high rate of turnover for new people. This is due to any number of reasons. However, once individuals have shown that they are a good match (6+ months), our turnover rate is low and we have people who have been at the company for more than 6 years (and going). It is interesting that this individual said expect to work overtime and get no thanks. In fact, that is not true, we often very explicitly thank people for their hard work. This individual simply did not want to put in even the expected 40 hours, so when any overtime was expected, they were sour. Management takes the amount of time required of our employees very seriously and while many MSPs indicate that they expect people to work overtime quite often (50+ hours), many of our employees work a standard 40 hour week most of the time. To be very clear, GEM does not have toxic relationships with its vendors. We have very harmonious relationships with many of our vendors, but we do hold our vendors to the same expectations that our clients hold us. We also do not have toxic relationships with our customers. We are an extension of their team and 3 of our clients just renewed for multi-year terms within the PAST MONTH alone. If the relationship were toxic we would not offer a renewal and/or the customer would not renew. GEM does not sell more than it can deliver. Like many companies, our resource vs supply is cyclical. Sometimes we have more work than employees, other times we have more employees than work. We are always striving to get better with this balance. If you read the final comment above, it just seems like this individual did not want to work for MSPs anymore, so why apply for the job?
