Pros

With the exception of most of the leadership, there are good people working at GMMB.

Cons

How badly do you need the job? If the answer is anything other than REALLY BADLY, do not do it. Read ALL the reviews, and understand that the majority of the positive reviews were written by HR or senior leaders desperate to keep the place afloat. There’s been near-constant turnover over the last few years, and HR begs employees to write positive reviews, sometimes even compensating people on their way out for writing them. The bottom line: GMMB offers you very limited opportunities for growth, way-below-industry-level pay, toxic work-life balance, and a name on your resume that is quickly becoming synonymous with “out-of-touch” in the industry. If you read about GMMB’s reputation, keep in mind that it comes from two decades ago. In practice, GMMB is an embodiment of the failed campaigns they’ve taken on since then. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that old-fashioned senior leaders drive campaigns that are either carelessly slapped together or completely behind industry trends. This is if there’s any strategy at all. Most of the time, everyone is so overworked that they don’t have time to consider what makes sense. Know that almost every single one of the projects on their website was driven by someone who has since left GMMB. The truth is, if you’re smart and show any level of critical thinking, it’s very likely you will be ridiculously unhappy here. For a company that preaches its values, it’s disappointing to see the way that senior leadership conducts business. Not only is it laughably outdated, it’s unethical. GMMB profits off of keeping staffers in the dark about their rights to negotiate fair salaries, hours and growth opportunities. They display work that’s in line with their “cause-based” approach, but that’s not the whole picture. And though they talk about diversity and inclusion, one look at the senior leadership suite will show you what their values really are. Because of bad leadership, HR, and employees unaware of their value, the culture at GMMB is toxic. The evidence of this toxicity is in the fact that people have suffered serious health problems from being overworked at GMMB, and pretty much every scandal you can imagine has happened here. It’s nearly impossible to advocate for yourself, and HR is useless (there’s been constant turnover there too). People joke about it being a warped reality inside GMMB. You’re convinced you couldn’t have it better somewhere else and that your skills render you useless elsewhere. If you stay too long, this will become true.

Wow, you seem really unhappy. We want you to work in an organization where you feel valued and we strongly encourage you to contact any senior leader in the firm with whom you have built a relationship to talk through your concerns. We work hard to address concerns, have an amazing staff, do incredible work that is making a real difference in the world and are very proud of what we’re able to accomplish together with our clients.

Pros

Most people won’t make it 3 years if their life depended on it but others have been here for decades. If you like it, you love it.

Cons

This place only survives on it’s fine tuned system of manipulation Financially it is holding on (barley from what I hear about a hiring freeze and layoffs from friends who still work there) by over working, understaffing and under paying their junior staff. Rather than make smart (or ethical) business choices, they require their junior staff to do accounting work, administrative work and navigate contracts while managing account work. They spend hefty amounts of money on onboard get because people leave CONSTANTLY so raises and bonuses are nothing to write home about. I genuinely believed that I had to be misunderstanding the situation and that it must be like this everywhere. They pit junior staff against one another and make sure you fed dumb enough that you feel like you can not be successful anywhere else. If you stay too long that becomes tru because you are never allowed to take ownership on tasks your peers have been doing for years everywhere else. It was not until I switched jobs that I realized I had wasted so much time. Finally a loved one convinced me to apply for a job I thought I would never get (after years of the manipulation). Thanks to proper management, professional developement and high moral I have been successful in my new role. I wish I’d listened when many many people warned me on their way out. Not everywhere is like this. Most actually are not.

Pros

The people who work there are incredible. There's a wide variety of personalities and, even through all the stress, it's easy to still remain friends with these people. They do train well and try their best to provide a multitude of opportunities for you to learn and grow. It seems like they want you to succeed they just have no idea how to make that happen.

Cons

The higher up you are, the less work you do. The lower levels are essentially slaves to the agency and leadership doesn't seem phased at all by this. On top of that, the pay is pretty crummy. GMMB has taken over my life for over eight months and the compensation I receive doesn't come close to making this situation okay. They reward the slackers more than those who work their butts off. My management structure is also incredibly messed up, as well as for the entire department I work in. If you come in here entry/junior level, get ready to sell you soul at clearance level. They do not care if you are overwhelmed..they'll tell you they are but then just not do anything. Also on a side note, there are like 13 Partners and like 30 SVPs so get ready for all sorts of confusion as to who can make any sort of legitimate decision.
