Exactly what you'd expect working at a startup

Pros

-great benefits -most of the employees are passionate and intelligent -Remote work

Cons

You're given more work than you can reasonably finish in a 40 hour week, and it is very much made your problem. Because other people are depending on that work to do their jobs, you're basically guilted into working overtime. It's getting too big to keep the "move fast and break things" nonsense that is a part of startup land -It's hard to pin down what is or isn't in your job description. It kind of seems like the two bosses at the company want you to intuit their will. -They give the appearance of an open door policy and transparency, but do not welcome feedback (If you're the squeaky wheel, get ready to quickly become persona non grata). -They tout the "flat structure" of the company, but it really means that everybody answers to the two people who own the company. One of them is too busy to deal with employment problems and the other is just a nightmare to have to deal with. -That nightmare person mentioned above, he's in charge of projects that he doesn't understand. Letting him know you disagree with him (especially when he's dead wrong) will pretty much guarantee your life is harder. Meetings. Always with the meetings. Expect to be in meetings at least 10 hours of every single week.

Bottom Line Supersedes Employee Needs

Pros

Some good people and relationships came out of my time there. Fully remote. Flexible pto.

Cons

Everything else. Unrealistic expectations from management that stems from the CEO, Bruce. What he calls “shit grenades” are actually just completely avoidable and unnecessary demands. Working hours are flexible, but unfortunately here, that means that you are consistently on the clock. Mistakes are not met with grace and understanding, but accusatory tones and public humiliation in meetings. Many problems with sexism in the workplace. Many women came forward with stories of being harassed and unfairly disciplined, but were met with PIPs rather than compassion and discipline for the harassers. In some cases, those harassers got promotions. Following SEVERAL internal incidents, harassment training for employees was still not a priority, which to me proves that employee safety comes second to the bottom line. Nothing is ever or will ever be enough for Bruce.

Pros

- Paid Time Off - Get to travel to new places every 3 months - Hotel and Flights paid for - Awesome Staff and Team of people - Actually get time off for doctors appointments, walk the dog, etc.

Cons

- Long hours and at times overworked - Chaotic, especially when projects are due - Management puts too much on your plate at times and expects quality product even when you're dead tired and haven't gotten much sleep. - Too many meetings, we're a "Meeting-Centric Company" - Not enough staff and employees often times wear 3-5 different hats within the company - Some positions are underpaid depending on your level
