Pros

Good clients and interesting work Friendly people for the most part Very knowledgable staff

Cons

Management is delusional. Constantly motivated by novelty and has no sense of the pressure junior staff (associates, senior associates and associate directors) are under. Did a staff survey that was so bad they didn’t publish it and thought everyone would forget about it - they haven’t! Almost all of the Associates are in the process of quitting or finding new work. Major pressure to bring in business despite there being nowhere near enough people to actually service the clients. Major pay disparity and no appreciation for the talent they already have in Oftentimes people who leave say they feel much happier and more relaxed since leaving. London office is way too small - senior management turned all the meeting rooms into private offices for themselves! Means it’s hard to find space to take calls or do meetings If you raise issues around capacity or pressure, you’ll be told to just get on with it. They’re *clearly* trying to sell the company to an investor, so they’re trying to pile in business and keep staff costs low. They think no one has worked this out, but it’s an open secret. Some advice: stop pretending people aren’t miserable, engage with them, support them and set out a proper plan of action.

Pros

Some of clients are interesting, plus there is opportunity to meet some interesting British political figures (if you’re into that)

Cons

There are about 2 or 3 stand out teams that carry the rest of the company. The others lack any resource and get overly pressurised - then fired - by senior management. Horrible atmosphere in the London office. No one seems to speak to each other. Seems to be making people miserable and they all end up quitting Senior management are waaaay out of touch with juniors. They put way too much pressure on junior staff and fail to provide enough support or reassurance during busy times. A weird kinda British ‘stuff upper lip’ thing seems to be the norm. Constant focus on business development to the detriment of supporting actual current clients Some of the team leads are actively horrible and hated, yet seem to keep their jobs somehow (even when the people they manage end up quitting). Has happened at least 3 or 4 times but management just seems to ignore it for ~reasons~

Pros

Opportunity to work with colleagues with a range of interesting backgrounds. Decent work/life balance but vastly dependant on line manager. Some genuine attempts to improve DE&I but only at the surface.

Cons

Makes unrealistic promises about the nature of GC's work during the hiring stage so overqualified people end up in a role vastly different to what was intially described. Pay for most staff is ludicrously below market average, unless they've recently moved from another firm. Salary transparency is frowned upon by senior management, likely because members of the same teams doing the same work often have 10-20k pay disparities. There are pretty huge questions around whether or not the finance team are just not paying anyone's pensions. It seems GC is facing repercussions for poor financial planning during its expansion.
