Unclear Roles, Toxic Culture, and Missed Opportunities
Pros
Exceptional People: There are some truly outstanding individuals within the company, though they are few and far between. DE&I Initiatives: The company made strides in implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, which were long overdue.
Cons
Unclear Role Definition: I started in a very undefined role with promises of commissions, but it took years for the terms to be finalised, and my earnings beyond the low base wage came much later. Toxic Culture: The company displayed deeply unprofessional behaviours, with a toxic culture that was pervasive throughout my tenure. The immense and constant pressure led to colleagues frequently experiencing anxiety attacks. Unbalanced Workload: High performers were given too many additional tasks, while underperformers received lighter workloads but weren't disciplined or managed out. Lack of Accountability: Success was largely driven by a small group of individuals, while many others did not contribute effectively or were allowed to underperform without consequence. Resource Shortages: When key team members were on leave or ill, entire departments would come to a halt, showing a lack of contingency planning and support. Outdated Solutions: Teams were forced to present outdated and poorly developed solutions to clients, which could only be hidden for so long before cracks became evident. Underpaid for Role: I was aware I was being underpaid in my role, and it wasn’t until I left that I fully understood the extent of the pay gap.
