Gluck Group Response
3yIt is always disappointing to read a negative review. I am pleased that you did find some team members supportive and dedicated, and given you worked for the company over three years. I am surprised by the feedback. I will respond to a few of the points.
‘Chaotic management with constant changes in direction’ - We are a business which has undergone a lot of change, without doing so we would not survive. I agree though that sometimes we have not been the best at communicating why the changes are happening. We are trying to get better at this. We did have annual retreats with a whole week off to get updated, but obviously this got suspended by Covid.
‘We felt unsupported and undervalued, and we were overworked.’ - I am sorry you felt this way, but really, very few people are overworked in the company. You control your hours, the workload. Nobody is asked to work overtime/weekends etc. I don’t think many people are over 40 hours a week, and many under 35 hours a week.
‘We were frequently asked to keep our webcams on at all times, which felt incredibly intrusive.‘ - We did use a tool which encouraged people to use video cameras. However, the software came with inbuilt privacy features and the ability to completely replace the video picture. The tool was used to make it easier for people to communicate and was never used nor did it support monitoring capability. When we were replacing the tool, a member of the team actually created a similar version because they missed it, and then the team insisted on implementing a replacement.
‘Despite advertising unlimited holidays, management frequently contacted us directly and made it clear that it was not a good time for us to take time off.’ - You don’t have to request it from anyone. People in Bilbao take all bank holidays, all of the Christmas period off, the two weeks in the summer as well as additional time typically. No one in the company internally has ever complained about or raised any issues with the holiday policy. Why? Because it works.
The turnover of staff in our company is very small. A few people leave us and we could of course get better. I think the advice to management in the main are relatively good suggestions, just a shame you did not feel you could raise this while working for the company for many years. In the time you were here, you will know one developer raised a need for pay rises due to cost of living, and the whole company was given 10% across the board.
