I worked at Golder Associates full-time for more than 3 years

          Pros

You will meet technically gifted people and learn a lot in a short space of time about a variety of industries. You will do well if you fit in and are male with a big ego and are prepared to sacrifice your work/life balance and morality to succeed. Otherwise prepare to work hard for little reward and empty promises and make sure you can tolerate a bit of colonialist or sexist 'banter' now and again.

          Cons

Don't expect a supportive environment. Management style is poor. Managers are often in positions due to length of service and are incompetent at managing people. 'Breadcrumbing' to junior staff is common place.

          Advice to Management

Succession planning? Recognise your people, don't wear then out to the point of mental breakdown, then leave them totally unsupported.

I have been working at Golder Associates full-time for more than 10 years

          Pros

Most of the people want to be here. They enjoy what they do and want to share. The work is varied and interesting. There is a lot of trust if you want to develop into an area.

          Cons

Deliberately limited structure which doesn’t suit everyone. Can feel top heavy.

I worked at Golder Associates full-time for more than a year

          Pros

Salary good. Support staff and junior staff were mostly good. Good office space.

          Cons

Poor management. Associates and Partners mostly protecting their turf. Technical firm run mostly by closed-door introverts. Stock ownership for privileged. If you are outside of stock, you are not part of decision making, no matter level of technical seniority. No real vision in my office or in my department nationally. Company spent too much time playing musical chairs planning moves and occasional parties. Partners...

          Advice to Management

Yea, bring in outside staff with new ideas. Oh, and maybe read your 10 page memo on subject. But then you should also listen to these people. (I was one of them.) Maybe listen next time instead of just optimizing office space and doing SSDD.
