Great People, Slow to Grow

Pros

There was a lot of autonomy starting out and was very hands on, which meant that we learned a lot. The people are smart and capable and felt very supportive. It's a GREAT place to learn and especially to be in-platform! I owe much of my career growth to what I learned while at Good Moose. Work/Life balance was great on the strategy side, but that was partly due to not having much work. We often got pulled into helping the performance team who had too much work.

Cons

The company was strugging to grow. Clients often don't launch after having a media strategy built for them and in some cases took our media plans to other more reputable agencies for activation. The clients that did activate often left after 1-3 months so there was a lot of client turnover. Also a lot of staff turnover after a certain point, once it was clear that the company was struggling to grow. There was a lack of communication among leadership, which lead to confusing and often unfair reviews of performance. I would get conflicting feedback from leadership and I didn't know who to believe. Pay was also not competitive. No matter what role you were, if you were promoted you got a $10k raise. It was extremely hard to get a promotion because you could have already been doing the role for 6 months and they won't even consider a promotion until it had been a year since your last promotion, meaning you were doing double the work with double the responsibility for no change in pay. When I eventually left, I made 30% more than what they offered me for the same role. There was an influx of staff that was hired remotely from South America and it also felt like an unsustainable way to grow. Ultimately, it's a wonderful place to learn and grow in your career. I think everyone who has left would agree that it was a positive experience but that the company simply wasn't growing at the same rate as its people.
