Pros

I spent two happy years at GoodGym, moving from a midlevel role into a senior one. The team was around 10 people at the time. Small companies can sometimes make it harder to find progression, but GoodGym made sure I had the ability to grow my skills and when the opportunity for promotion came about, they supported and encouraged me to aim higher. They put in a conscious effort to make sure everybody felt comfortable giving their opinions and ideas. The long term strategy document was always a whole team affair, this isn't something I had experienced before in my career. Although making big impact in small teams is tricky, the pro's far out weighed the cons. The fact decisions were made so openly meant that everybody got to grow their knowledge. It also meant we all felt connected to each other and our work. This was demonstrated by the fact a lot of the team also take part in GoodGym in their spare time. Out of all of the places I've worked, GoodGym was the organisation that put the most action into their diversity and inclusivity goals. Progress wasn't always fast but they made sure it wasn't just lip service. The time I worked there coincided with the pandemic and they went above and beyond to make sure all staff felt supported and happy at work. The original founder was the CEO and his care and compassion is what makes it such a lovely place to work. His curiosity and kindness means that GoodGym continues to thrive in a tricky climate. I couldn't recommend them more as a great place to work.

Cons

The tory government. They have stripped back adult social care to a level that it's being propped up by small charities. The areas GoodGym are trying to make an impact in are tough. Sustainability is very hard to measure with limited budgets. Loneliness is an epidemic but can easily be ignored by funders. By the time you read this review, somebody else might be in power. Ultimately, the team of passionate people at GoodGym help you overcome the cons.

Pros

The team are fantastic, really wonderful people. Work is flexible and it’s a very supportive and inclusive environment. Everyone is passionate about what they do and eager to make positive change. Best team I’ve worked in.

Cons

There is little opportunity for development but this is only due to the size of the charity and so there’s not really anything they can do about that. They are still supportive of their staff and of developing as a team.
