The worst experience for my first role in-house designer. A nightmare working with a narcissistic and egocentric manager. Company structure: HIERARCHICAL
In the business world, titles hold weight, symbolising authority and status.
Yet, true leaders understand that effectiveness goes beyond titles; it's about actions. Which they have none unfortunately. Fellow designers and assistant manager are great but not the marketing manager. You can’t work with two faced people.
When employees head to work each day, they don't anticipate their wellbeing to be compromised. Instead, they hope for a supportive environment where they can thrive both personally and professionally. It's crucial for organisations to do more than just ensure people survive; they must also help them thrive. Survival is about meeting basic needs, but thriving involves going beyond that – it's about enabling individuals to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.
Can’t expect much coming from a ‘catering company’. There is no integrity.
Sometimes, managers fail to notice toxicity within the team.
Sometimes, managers themselves become the source of toxicity.
Toxic leaders create toxic environments.
Poor leadership leads to poor management of the work environment.
This can include abusive behaviour:
1. Micromanaging
2. Receiving excessive non-constructive feedback,
3. Pitting against colleagues as a ‘competition’ instead of collaborative work effort.
4. Being manipulated with your salary, and compared mine with others in a discussion when it’s supposed to be CONFIDENTIAL.
5. Receiving tasks beyond your job description.
6. No room for errors and learning from mistakes
7. Limited communication
If you ever hit most of this checklist: LEAVE. No work is worth your energy and mental health
