Pros

Decent Base Team members are there for you when management is clearly not.

Cons

Since I started, it was always rocky, but leadership cared and was trying to figure it out. Then, new leadership came in and it began to pivot into a complete transactional sales strategy. I shouldn't have to say this but, government employees and agencies need more nurturing and relationship based sales people. GovOS is simply too far behind the 8 ball to sell slowly and honestly. Training is from people who never sold the product and do not speak to our customer types. I NEVER had an actual manager in my senior roles until they hired one who promised to turn the whole ship around. Putting all my faith in this person trapped me in multiple situations where trust was broken immediately. I was a top performer on the team and my manager was tasked to help us with deals and training. Never did my manager once help me in anything he proposed. 1 on 1's rarely happened and none of the goals and needs I insisted on from my manager never came into fruition. Instead I got 1,000 wordy documents that were supposed to help with the different stages in sales. My manager also lied and kept information from me in order to let me go because I did not fit the mold of transactional brown nosers that he requires in order for him to feel accomplished. Awful Managers Cliquey Leadership Goals and Objectives simply unattainable with extremely upset customer base.

Old-Fashioned Patriarchy - Stay Away!

Pros

Remote work, unlimited PTO (you'll probably be too behind to use it, though). Might be able to get the experience you want if you are just starting your career.

Cons

The company is run by old white men who have no interest in the challenges of their employees or the quality of the products. There are little to no advancement opportunities for any marginalized groups, and no support for that matter. Compensation is lower than direct competitors. The CEO's only priority is profit and he will work everyone to death rather than expanding the team to properly support the workload. Leaders expect everyone to work overtime every week while saying they value work life balance. The employee-run DEI was terminated and they said it would begin again when they hired a new HR leader. That was maybe a year ago? Still no DEI ERG. No employees have time for any ERGs because they are worked too much and already have to take time from their personal lives to work long hours and weekends. You can easily work 60-70 hours a week all year and still be behind. They have fired several subject matter experts who have most of the knowledge about the products. If you try to advocate for yourself or your team, you WILL be fired. Customers are unhappy because they used to get great service and support from the startup company, but they can't get a hold of anyone after GovOS acquired the startup and expanded the sales team without expanding operations accordingly. Employees are miserable, customers are miserable (lots of churn), and the products aren't getting the improvements they need to work properly. They will sign a contract that includes features that don't exist, then deny the development resources needed to fulfill the contract. Bottom line is STAY AWAY! Especially if you are female, have more melanin than the CEO, have a disability, etc. Whether you are looking for a job or a software solution, GovOS is not it.

Pros

Working in GovTech and with local government has the distinct advantage of strictly being Mon-Fri business hours. In 18 months I had little to no work obligations outside normal working hours which, for anyone in Support, is rare and appreciated. Smaller company willing to spend on small expenses when needed, such team building activities, equipment needed for support labs, etc Large investment in new headquarters in Austin TX which plans to build it into a proper software company office space. New 'unlimited PTO' policy for salaried workers and generous PTO allowance for hourly workers.

Cons

- Top-heavy company that would benefit greatly from investing more at the bottom level than continued inflation of the top levels. I generally observed a 1:5 or 1:6 ratio of leader:IC, when a 1:10 or 1:12 ratio would be more appropriate. - Top leadership does not hold org leaders accountable for their output and lack a metrics-driven approach, particularly in Development, which became a bottleneck for maintenance bug fixes as well as new customer development. - Terrible 401K match (0.25%) and health benefits aren't much better. - Poor forecasting from leadership led to personnel layoffs in Jan-2021, and unless leadership changes, will likely happen again. - Lack of account managers means that Customers run the show and the company falls in line with their demands / no customer accountability
