Pros

Rad office on a cool street. Snack. Occasional catered lunches. Talented and friendly employees.

Cons

I learned an important life lesson during my time at Grow: never work for a company with a single owner. I quickly discovered that Drew's vanity, pursuit of perfection, and extreme micro-management style stifled creativity, exacerbated strategy and undermined morale (another review politely called this a "managerial bottleneck"). There was a lack of trust that made me question why I was hired in the first place. Most of the people who worked there were locals who hadn't ventured outside Virginia. The out-of-state hires rarely stay longer than a year. Grow's portfolio has some big brands, but keep in mind, most of that is banner ad-based work. They had an ArtCopyCode retainer with Google but I never saw repeat business. The studio's location and lack of emphasis on in-person work sessions made building client relationships nearly impossible. My closing thought: when the CEO of your company tells you to move a banner ad button "1 pixel to the right", you know they're focusing on the wrong things.

Thank you for your feedback. We believe in open and honest dialogue, and we encourage it with every one of our 50+ team members. Our tight, close-knit team environment is something we’re very proud of. It’s also what earned us spots on both Inc.’s Best Workplaces list and Entrepreneur’s Top Company Cultures in 2018. For the benefit of anyone else reading this review, we’d like to clarify a few inaccuracies: our client roster, while inclusive of Google, also includes a variety of long-standing partnerships with some of the most renowned brands in the world, and our portfolio has never been comprised of a large percentage of banner work. Additionally, we have a healthy mix of local and relocated talent, with 40% of our team members coming from New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Seattle, Texas and even Brazil. Retention is high, and our team—led by Drew and eight others who make up our Leadership Team—is stronger than ever. We’re all committed to continuously learning and improving. We appreciate the feedback, like yours, which helps us continue to do just that.

Pros

There's so many good things about this place, but for a creative it's the best. You get to work on big projects and get to help shape them. The team takes care of one another and cares about the outcome of both personal and professional projects. Great work environment in a city that cares about the company.

Cons

Late nights and long days, depending on the project phase. Some bottle-necking from a managerial/creative standpoint. Difficult to get promoted because of the size of the company.

You're part of a family

Pros

Competitive salary and benefits, summer week, holiday break, generous PTO, catered lunches, birthday treats, the BEST holiday party, office dogs, coworkers that are like family, ability to WFH, free shows at the NorVA, amazing clients and projects.

Cons

Occasional long hours, and stressful situations. Sometimes it can feel like your "best" is never good enough, but at the same time it's great to be challenged and pushed to do your absolute best.
