Toxic management

Pros

Gula Cakery is a nightmare to work for. The management is terrible, with no clear guidelines or structure. Salaries get cut without reason, and staff are fired on a whim with no warning. The worst part is the owner—she’s a toxic, rude person who thinks she can say whatever she wants. The whole place is run by family members who interfere in everything, making it impossible for things to run smoothly. No professionalism, no respect for workers. If you value your peace of mind and career, stay far away from this place.

Cons

What makes it worse are her parents—always stirring up trouble and looking for ways to blame the staff for anything that goes wrong. No respect, no professionalism, just constant stress.

Pros

Some colleagues are kind and helpful. You can learn a lot about kitchen operations and handling a fast-paced environment.

Cons

There is strong favoritism toward senior staff. Management often sides with them regardless of the situation, while new employees are expected to perform like they’ve been there for years. Many new hires are dismissed after just a few days without fair evaluation or training. Work schedules are also unbalanced — although the roster shows 9AM–6PM or 9PM, most staff are required to stay until closing, except senior staff who are not asked to do overtime. When issues are raised, management holds meetings but focuses on irrelevant matters instead of solving the real problems. This creates low morale and a very high staff turnover.

Pros

If you're a part-timer there, the chef will cook the food daily. Most of the staff are friendly. My first supervisor is a friendly and humble person. But the feller was retrenched to another branch for an unknown reason.

Cons

My last supervisor is a pain in the arse. Don't know how to cooperate. Don't know to treat the staffs nicely. Basically being a dork. Doesn't do the responsibilities and sometimes being very authoritarian. That was my last experience working there before I left to pursue my studies.
