Pros

A company with great benefits, good people, but sadly enough, poor management.

Cons

A company that cares very little for creativity, nuance, or growth. They survive in a niche market. The day-one team still runs the show and have been promoted into roles they aren’t qualified to serve in. Micro-management and mediocrity are the norm and the upper cabinet lives in fear of the member-owned board. If you are in the click you can enjoy a flexible schedule, working from home, and visibility. If you aren’t, get used to having a limited voice, being subject to “managers discretion,” and everything taking forever to get done because no one wants to make a decision. I’ve watched smart people with great ideas get ignored all because it wasn’t coming from the one person who only likes their own ideas. Good new talent doesn’t stay long—I lasted a year, and there is little accountability for co-workers who come in and do nothing. Three CEOs and four HR Directors in just four years, it says a lot.

Pros

A lot of emphasis on culture and giving back to organizations and community groups. Many fundraisers take place throughout the year in addition to internal events. New addition to the building is nice if you are okay with working in an open floorplan.

Cons

For as long as I was here, the favorites received promotions and new titles. As long as you knew who to play, you were shuffled right along into a new title and pay scale whether you deserved it or not. Leadership from the latest new CEO, down to all VPs, and through most managers is non-existent. Don't have a college degree or you are taking classes "online"? Welcome! Don't have any experience in a real workplace? Glad you're here! Terrible with others, have poor communication skills, and have no idea how to act in a professional environment? You're hired! It was frustrating to have earned a real 4-year college degree and have decent prior experience to see people move ahead without any education or who flirted the most with their boss. If you are looking to work in insurance, go to Hartford and work for one of the big guns.

Pros

The benefits are excellent. 7% of annual salary contributed to a 401k plan, excluding their match on your contribution. Company contributes 1000 annually to your Hsa and they cover most of the insurance cost. Generous time off package. Compensation is low and employees rarely receive their target bonus.

Cons

The company suffers from poor leadership, which has led it into financial difficulties and cuts in dividends for members. The senior management team lacks leadership, professionalism, business savvy and is intimidated by their board and any staff member with intelligence. Promotions are based on friendships rather then skills and ability.
