Pros

Free membership Being in infrared saunas all the time and getting extra exposure Members are usually nice

Cons

Overworked and underpaid Expect to clean everything, give tours and sell memberships, complete ALL repairs, provide customer service to anyone who calls or comes up to the desk, run social media, connect with all your businesses you partner with frequently, plan multiple events a month, run giveaways, connect with members who just joined to see how they're doing, call 50+ people a day to come in and try a class, count inventory and place orders. These are all DAILY tasks the franchisee would tell me to complete. One day I had 15+ phone calls with the franchisee going over what they wanted me to complete.

Pros

It pays to play the politics….

Cons

If you’re looking for a professional environment built on merit, keep looking. HOTWORX thrives on politics, gossip, and favoritism. Unless you’re dating a coworker, related to someone in power, or part of the inner circle, your growth is capped — no matter how hard you work or how well you perform. Franchisees are constantly undermined by corporate’s cult-like culture. There’s no room for common sense, feedback, or accountability. Leadership decisions are made behind closed doors by people who are either related, romantically involved, or completely unqualified. Some execs literally call one of the owners “Nan.” That tells you everything you need to know about the dynamics here. They do not conduct exit interviews, because they don’t care why good people leave. And if you outperform someone they like more than you? You become a target.

Pros

Free membership, flexible hours, friendly members

Cons

Entirety of shifts consists of contacting a large number of mostly old and occasionally new prospects. The ratio of the amount of people that we are required to contact during a shift to the amount of people that answer and schedule appointments is embarrassingly high. An even more embarrassingly high ratio is between the amount of people who schedule appointments to the amount of people who actually show up for their appointments. The required work is extremely repetitive and boring. Management only cares about numbers rather than personally caring for current members which is possibly one of the reasons for the high membership cancelation rate. Management encourage sales associates to be obnoxiously fake and overtly pushy towards interested prospects. Management stresses that sales associates do everything in their power to make a sale and to significantly drop pricing if necessary. However, management is unclear about the price variations and limitations that sales associates are allowed to offer when attempting to close a difficult sale. This leads to management scolding sales associates for not offering a low enough price drop or for offering a too low of a price drop. Management demands sales associates to come up with new ideas to attract new prospects, but fail to realize how difficult it is to add, take away, or alter any part of a franchise when cooperate controls EVERYTHING!!!
