Pros

If you start with your career, it might be a good option. You get the benefits of a big player in the Finnish educational market. Inside of Finland the pay is very good, but internationally it is not.

Cons

You need to report your working hours (at Finnish universities like at Aalto or the University of Helsinki you don't need that). You have less and less time to prepare your teaching, basically you need to have everything ready to teach, otherwise you are buried in a lot of unpaid overtime. With your signing of the contract, you loose copyright of any work that you do during the validity of your contract (it is against the law, but they don't care). I strongly advise to become a member of the trade union to be able to defend yourself in case you get into trouble.

Pros

One of the most fulfilling aspects is the opportunity to shape and inspire the next generation of professionals. Lecturers and staff not only impart knowledge but also mentor, guide, and support students, helping them grow not just academically but also personally. It’s incredibly motivating to see students apply what they've learned in real-life situations and to know you’ve contributed to their success.

Cons

Navigating administrative processes or adapting to policy changes can sometimes be frustrating.
