Pros

There were coworkers and management (that were recently promoted at the time) that I enjoyed working with. I did have freedom, and no restrictions on how I worked on my Projects. I was not micromanaged in doing my job. However, there were constant unnecessary ‘monkey wrenches’ thrown into my Projects which extended my deadlines which unfairly impacted the results of my work performance. Someone posted in another review that the company provides food, the company provides a lunch that you have to pay for.. (It gets taken out of your pay check every week). Also, if you’re absent I don’t think you get reimbursed for it…

Cons

When I was working at HALIGHT there was no organization amongst the Management team. I have discovered that there is a lot of favoritism and nepotism. I have witnessed Management publicly be toxic and irrational to workers in front of their peers. The company lacks comfortable working environments, professionalism, and resources. During my interview I was told that the company had a casual and relaxed time schedule, and that there were certain windows they would “like” some employees to be present in the office. I later discovered that is not true, if your attendance is not punctual Management will hold it against you. Management will document your tardiness and will hold it against you in your review; this information was later released to me, from one of the Management staff. I have observed Management shoot themselves in the foot, and then later throw a hardworking, ‘non-family related’ employee under the bus for their own mistakes. There were multiple occasions when speaking with Management and Executives that they would contradict themselves more than once in conversations. Some Management does not even have a good grasp of their own work ethics and structure. I have seen good and loyal workers unnecessarily, unfairly and unjustified get thrown underneath the bus (even when they were not present to defend themselves). If I were to be rewarded for being the best employee within the company, I still would not trust certain Management to provide a good reference. I have seen workers who do not contribute much to the company to be liked and valued by upper management, then see hard working, qualified specialist to be blamed for other people’s mistakes. These are recipes for an unprofessional and toxic business environment. The Owner’s friends and family members have nowhere to go, so they will hold onto this job and praise it, and will go out of their way to promote it (even though they are aware of some of the company’s incompetence and negligence.) If HALIGHT’s work environment will continue with this pattern, this company will never grow and succeed. Eventually causing the qualified, dedicated and skilled workers (Who are carrying the workload of other people) finding employment somewhere else. My advice is, if you are going to work for this company….. During the interview do not sell yourself SHORT. You’ll regret that you did. Get compensated for your worth, Management will bleed you dry during that time and you might as well be compensated

Pros

Pros: The people doing the grit work, work hard and are nice people.

Cons

Cons: I don’t recommend working here. I worked at Halight for a 1 1/2 years and have found the work culture to stem from very toxic management, which I experienced first hand. I also experience and witnessed multiple accounts of racism and toxic behaviour from numerous members of management. The company seems nice and good at first, however if you don’t go along with their toxic + hustle culture they will try to fire you or find reason to do so, but in my case they couldn’t do either because I’m a good employee. So instead they tried to make my life miserable, as I dealt with mental health issues and a global pandemic. I don’t need to explain myself, however I do feel like I must warn others about this company before they get into it. You’ll also notice that the turnover rate is extremely high; people don’t stay at toxic work environments. Contrary to previous reviews, the company does not feed you. The benefits are bare minimum and no vision coverage. The company does not provide very much support for remote working. To me, it seems as if they want your talent but don’t care about your well-being.

Pros

They feed you, and while the health insurance exists, I never used it as my wife, a call center emoloyee, had better insurance.

Cons

HALIGHT is good if you're looking to break into DevOps, although I experienced a great deal of institutional and corporocultural barriers that prevented me from advocating as an agent of change. Perhaps somebody else is a better fit; if you consider Gene Kim to be the best authority on DevOps and The Phoenix and Unicorn Projects to be your Bible, you likely won't fit in here; none of the lessons these books taught were accepted by HALIGHT. Execution of technology-basis executive goals are owned by one single person, who has been there for over a decade. This person has very limited experience operating enterprise-scale systems. Release engineers, if you have experience in Agile transformations, you should know the antipattern this represents, and the ramifications are very readily apparent. And let me be clear - there is no interest in addressing this antipattern, even though the incapacitation of this person would likely stall development for several weeks. As a result of the antipattern described in the preceding paragraph, ideas counter to the status quo are often rejected. Engineers whom are particularly adept at navigating political challenges may be well suited. As "adept" is subjective, I will state my best attempt was bringing in a bunch of my Gene Kim books, and loaning them out to whoever I could generate an interest; one product owner borrowed The Phoenix Project, but it sat unread on his desk for two months. I was otherwise unsuccessful in directly engaging with any person in my management chain; none of them had any experience with DevOps before and thus treated my "contrarian" ideas (such as "Build Cattle, not Pets," and basic adoption of Docker, Ansible and Terraform, which are used by the rest of the world) as completely insane. Another contributor described a hardworking specialist consistently receiving the blame for a liked person's mistakes; this happens very frequently, and has a suspicious amount of familiarity making me suspect it was somebody who witnessed what I experienced.....
