Pros
The only benefit to working in this place is having weekends off. We were allowed to make ourselves coffee and have 1 sandwich for lunch (however these are not appetising at all).
Cons
At ‘full time’ you work maximum 30 hrs a week, paid minimum wage. Considering the reasonable amount of custom that the business receives and no significant benefits, this is extremely poor from Ian. Ian (the owner) can easily be summed up in 1 word, a bully. He thrives on making others feel small, does not hold back on shouting at employees over small issues and is extremely abrasive to all, customers included. He would often sleep in his office, spending waking hours watching employees on CCTV. His mood would highly impact the work environment each day, as you would wait to find out who was going to get shouted at that day. Many customers seemed to frequent the cafe due to convenience but would often talk about how they did not like giving him business. Training is virtually non-existent - I was hired to work in the cafe and never once shown how to make a coffee properly, nor how to properly clean the machine. Cash tips averaged about £1 a week per person when divided between the 4/5 workers in the cafe.
