Pros

The idea behind Harper Wilde is powerful, and while the co-founders may not truly have it in mind, your fellow coworkers likely do. Also, the bras really are comfortable.

Cons

You’re expected to work ridiculous hours on a minimal salary. With a mission to support women, the co-founders laid off one without warning and her direct manager wasn't even in the room, and paid one as a contractor that after taxes, parking and healthcare costs turned out to be less than minimum wage. She’d worked there over two years. Their bras that support foundations like Girls, Inc., sound nice in theory, but the cost is high ($50) so they don’t lose their profit margin by donating. (ie they use donation as a marketing ploy only). The company used to also stand for producing a product that is affordable than the rest of the market at $35/ea. Now with bras at $50 it’s nothing more than another bra company targeting affluent women. All of these manipulative business practices laid out to say, Harper Wilde is not empowering women at all, so if working for a company doing social good is important to you, this isn’t the company to work at.

Sinking ship

Pros

This used to be by far the best place I ever worked. Free bras, wonderful coworkers, and a leadership team with a clear vision.

Cons

Unfortunately, the leadership team has made a series of the most baffling and disheartening decisions in the last year alone that makes it clear the company is doing poorly and their priorities have shifted from the people (the customers and the employees) to scrambling to pinch whatever pennies they can. They have no sense of who they are as a brand and internally there is no consensus. They have unceremoniously fired multiple folks who had been contributing to the company since its inception and as a result many talented employees have quit. The worst part — and the pitfall of every startup — is the cloying language they use to make you feel like you're a part of a family when in reality, you're a disposable cog in a machine. All the cutesy empowered feminist rhetoric in the world can't save you from that. I'd be surprised if they're still around 6 months from now. It's a shame because the product is amazing and the vision was one worth fighting for.

A terrible experience

Pros

Sometimes you get free underwear.

Cons

The founders have done a lot of shady firings and layoffs, plus they closed their office, making it clear the company isn't doing well all the while pretending everything is totally okay. They don't address any of the obvious changes, take any employee feedback seriously, or do anything but ignore how low morale is getting. I felt like the "this is fine" meme every day.
