Pros

Pension scheme Leaving at end of the day always felt good There are a couple of decent managers but most are terrible Academies seem OK to work in, just head office that is dreadful

Cons

- Out of touch leadership - Bureaucracy - Very hierarchical - Favouritism and bullying from managers - No development opportunities - No flexibility - No trust - Set days in office for no reason - Mandated office but no collaboration either in or between teams - So many cultural problems that are brushed under the carpet eventhough everyone knows about them - HR are incompetent and let managers abuse staff - Overworked - Unrealistic expectations and objectives - No recognition or appreciation for going above and beyond - No diversity initiatives and a lot of discrimination issues - Disgusting germ infested office that everyone gets sick in regularly - Weird old fashioned rules like forcing men to wear ties and not allowed to wear headphones - Lack of decent benefits and any good ones get scrapped - No concern for staff wellbeing - Only get 25 days holiday and most of those days has to be taken during school holidays which they don’t tell you until you start - Very questionable budget choices just look at CEO and director salaries and they don’t even have to work during school holidays Overall staff are treated badly. All of this hidden at interview. Most people want to leave. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. No one should be desperate enough to have to work here!

Pros

Some lovely colleagues and stakeholders who were kind and good to work with. The work was interesting.

Cons

Horrible managers and senior leaders who only care for themselves and are happy to throw their staff under the bus when they feel threatened or need to use someone as a scapegoat. That was the experience in the team I was in. My manager lied all the time and took credit for mine and other’s work despite their own incompetence with the most basic tasks. Staff who are quieter and lower on the hierarchy get punished for others’ mistakes and my manager’s manager was a manipulative bully and the biggest hypocrite but gets away with everything thanks to lazy overpaid directors. In the short time I endured this place, I saw multiple colleagues crying due to poor management and leadership practices, hard working staff be gaslit and discriminated against which led to them choosing to leave, threats of disciplinary processes for considering internal career progression, no consideration for staff’s personal lives and the poorest communication and organisation from a manager possible. Don’t believe anything they tell you at interview. It will all be lies.

Pros

Nothing not a damn thing

Cons

Anyone in senior roles based at the croydon head office who is head of department and above aside from maybe 1 or 2 exceptions are bullies. Directors are like cartoon villains! Everyone works in fear and it wasn’t until I left that I realised how soul destroying the place had been. You’ll learn quickly to keep ur head down and to not speak up out of fear of being ostracised. Apparently theres a hr department but you wouldn’t know it they don’t seem to do anything to stop these terrible working practices and happy for staff to be bullied, underpaid, and discriminated against! Working at the federation has caused so much trauma and I’ve been left with nothing but bad memories and regret from such a toxic job! Everyone’s leaving and there’s good reasons for it! Learn from my mistake and don’t consider a job here!! Leaving was the best thing I could have ever done!
