The execs at the top were only interested in "getting metal" -- ie, awards. (Yes, they actually called it that.) A lot of time was taken creating and submitting cool stuff to competitions. There was always one eye on that and the other on actual client fulfillment. I personally found the proponents of this to be fairly dreadful human beings.
