Pros
An HCC summer internship is a wonderful stepping stone for a young public health professional. Internship placement is usually based on mutual preference of host organization and applicant. Stipend is modest but adequately adjusted for location's cost of living. Great focus on diversity in the field.
Cons
While HCC cares a lot about promoting diversity in the public health field, they occasionally hire event speakers who are dated in their understanding of these issues. Still, an exciting energy comes from a room of young adults who are all so passionate about diversity that they take time to point out microaggressions and how we the field can improve.
