Pros

-Meal offered each shift/snacks in break room -Security cameras -Company shirts, jackets provided -$25-$100 bonuses for picking up shifts -Reasonable resident load (6-8 residents per CNA in the memory care unit) -Lot of activities for the residents, which helps keep them busy, active, and happy

Cons

-Lack of a team environment, every man for himself kind of environment -Limited supplies -Maintenance is behind on many repairs, which means increased safety hazards and fall risks -Housekeeping is extremely minimal, CNAs are responsible for most of it -Graveyard shift is usually left without food and supplies -Unprofessional coworkers (couldn’t trust anyone’s word, had to stay late daily to wait on my relief, talked down to and belittled, there is a lot of drama, issues with people disappearing and sleeping on shift, etc.) -Highgate really needs more team bonding days to help strengthen the relationship between their employees

Pros

Highgate has great opportunities for career growth. I started out at Highgate in Activities , moved to Community Relations, Assistant Executive Director, Executive Director and now Senior Executive Director. The Home Office is extremely supportive and I love the company's culture and core values. When I go to work, it feels like I am coming in to see my "second family",

Cons

I really do not have any cons..I love my job.

Pros

Good people. The aides that did the actual care for the seniors were compassionate and dedicated (at least those that stayed very long).

Cons

Poor pay. And because of this and other aspects of the job, the turn-over is so bad they need to install a revolving door on the "Staff Only" entrance. Upper management doesn't care about you or the people you serve. They overcharge for the services they render and pay those who actually do the work so little that no one stays very long. This is really hard on the seniors, who would prefer more consistency among the staff. Imagine being wheel-chair bound and needing assistance to move in and out of the chair. Now imagine that you've finally got the morning crew trained how to do it right, when the next day it's all new faces, who don't know how to move you without causing you pain.
