Toxic Culture

Pros

-Working with the clients to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life -Used to have a great culture

Cons

There has been a lot of turnover in the past year at the counseling center primarily due to changes at the management level. Management is unorganized and pushes employees to do unethical things to meet numbers. There is a lack of communication among management and it is almost as though it is a dictatorship. There is a lot of talk about self-care and prioritizing client care but that is all talk and not actually followed through on. The concept of burnout is not addressed despite being brought up to managers and supervisors which is ironic given that everyone is working in a counseling center where we try to promote quality of life. Overall, there is zero training for new employees, minimal opportunities for growth, and lack of organization and structure. New employees learn by failing and old employees are mistreated, taken advantage of, and pushed out to make room for new employees who don't yet know what they are in for. The managers made us feel like just numbers who were replaceable anytime. The culture is toxic and makes employees prefer to isolate rather than band together to support each other as in the past.

I am saddened to hear of your experience during the transition occurring at the Counseling Center, but I appreciate your comments. So many staff are putting in great hard work to meet new County growth requirements but the underlying great culture will resurface as the transitional period is finalized. We are excited to have so many new members adding enrichment the team,

Pros

Nothing good to share here accepts both CEO and CFO are unprofessional, untrusted worthy and unpredictable.

Cons

Worst place to work and total hostile working environment. Not recommended work place for employment. Both CEO and CFO only care about their images, harsh/insulted employees.

Great mission, horrible management

Pros

I joined Hope Services because I felt strongly about the organization's mission to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. Hope provides some really valuable services to this vulnerable population, although the organization's ability to succeed is jeopardized by members of the current management team.

Cons

The current CEO is awful. He turned the company culture--which had been marked by teamwork and camaraderie--into one that's based on fear and distrust. If you are working at a different Hope location or otherwise do not need to interact with the CEO or HR, you may have a more positive experience, but I experienced an environment where you can be (unprofessionally and unfairly) harassed at the CEO's whim. I also watched a number of qualified management personnel leave the organization because of his behavior and the uncomfortable environment in the San Jose location.
