Pros

HSA plan is good and convenient since you can open it at the bank.

Cons

There is not much opportunity for career growth. The company tends to assign more work to employees who want to grow instead of helping them achieve their goals. Management does not say thank you or compensate you in any way for the extra time and work. The Horizon way is to promote you after doing the extra work for 6months - 1 year. This means job title and pay are the same after you have already transitioned to the new department. With that being said, bonuses are also based on your current salary and job title, which means if you were promoted you will need until the following bonus period to be considered at the new level. They do not really offer growth plans...just a bunch of lateral moves within the company They also hire most positions as exempt so they do not need to pay overtime, even though it is expected quite often. They don't tell you that you will need to work rotating Saturdays until after you are trained and on the schedule. Saturday's are usually slow, but it would have still been nice to know when accepting the position. The Saturday branch may also be different than the regular branch you work at so keep that in mind since it may be a longer commute. I did rate the CEO as disapprove because he doesn't come around. Most people at the bank do not even know what he looks like and wouldn't recognize him if he walked into a department. The only people that have met him are the ones who have been working there 5+ years or are in management.

Pros

Customers are great to work with and usually friendly.

Cons

Management makes promises they do not keep. They do not believe in promoting or giving raises to employees who work hard. If you ask to advance your career, management will make promises (they don't keep) and dump more work on you without a raise or recognition. Management does not actually listen "to the little people" and only promotes a select few or those related to executives. Salaries are also not on a viable scale or match with other bank's pay. HR seems to believe that Horizon's job titles match the descriptions at other banks, but the workload and expectations are far greater at Horizon and that is not factored into compensation. It is a fact that there are people with less experience making more money and have been given more opportunities based on who they know rather than negotiating salaries based on experience. If you are one of the favorites, they will listen to you, if not this place has a very negative tone. The branch was robbed one day, everyone was startled since the man had a gun, but after the cops came it was business as usual and management didn't even care about the sensitivity and the emotional well-being of their employees after the traumatic experience. Any other bank would have shut down for the short remainder of the day - there is literally another branch less than 5 mins away that customers could have been diverted to if necessary. The company says they promote emotional well-being however, this seems hypocritical given the situation described. You also have to work Saturdays which they do not tell you about upon hire. It is rotating, but the schedule changes constantly so you can be off one Saturday and then check a week later to find out it changed. They also say the rotating bank holidays are optional to work, but they really aren't.
