Approach HostGPO with Caution

Pros

The employees at this company are hard working and know the Airbnb/short-term rental space well.

Cons

As a potential employee, please be warned that the current CEO, who is a lawyer, can be litigious and unusually aggressive when dealing with employees and business partners. Although HostGPO is a relatively small company, a significant number of employees have been mistreated. Currently, there is no full-time, dedicated HR, and there are things happening at the company that are not right. Many employees feel that the CEO's public persona differs from their internal experiences within the company. Approach with caution.

Zero work life balance

Pros

Great team members, growing company, great way to learn about short term rentals.

Cons

Self obsessed founders who have zero work life balance and expect you to work constantly. Furthermore, there was a lack of flexibility and understanding when it came to personal commitments. Requests for time off or adjustments to the schedule were often met with resistance or ignored altogether. It felt as if the company prioritized work over the well-being and personal lives of its employees. Another aspect that contributed to the poor work-life balance was the absence of clear boundaries between work and personal time. I frequently received work-related messages and emails during evenings, weekends, and even vacations. This made it nearly impossible to disconnect and recharge, leading to burnout and a decline in overall job satisfaction. Overall, my experience at HostGPO was marred by an unhealthy work-life balance. The excessive workload, lack of flexibility, and constant intrusion on personal time made it difficult to maintain a healthy and fulfilling life outside of work. I would caution anyone considering employment with HostGPO to carefully evaluate their priorities and expectations before making a commitment.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about our work environment. We strive to provide a positive workplace culture and take your input seriously when shaping company policy. We never want our employees to feel overworked, and pride ourselves on the positive feedback we get from our employees on work-life balance. Indeed, as a fully remote company stretched acorss many time zones, managing messages can be stressful however there is never an expectation that employees work outside of work hours or during vacations. Additionally, our unlimited PTO policy is flexibly in place so that our team members can take the time to recharge when needed! To date, we have never denied a request to take time off! We do like to think that our group morning meditation sessions and our encouragement of folks to travel and explore the world as a part of our industry are part of what make us a great workplace! We are sorry that you did not have a great experience working here, and wish you the best with your next venture.

Pros

The people and the CEO are truly what make this company special. I’ve never worked with a more supportive, hardworking, and fun group of people. Even during stressful times, there was always laughter, teamwork, and a sense that everyone genuinely cared about each other. Leadership is passionate and deeply invested in the company, and you can feel how much heart has gone into building the business and culture. I learned a lot during my 5 years here and had opportunities to wear many hats, grow professionally, and build strong relationships. These are all people I will love and know for life, and that comes directly from the CEO. Leadership also understands when people need time to recharge and was supportive of taking PTO (which is unlimitted) and prioritizing personal matters. It's very much an environment of as long as the work gets done, that's all that matters. Take the time! Plus, the health benefits are very good, and leadership takes into account any grievances you may have with benefits. I also loved the RoastGPOs, where you get to go on company-sponsored coffee dates, and the holiday parties. Don't be fooled by the fully remote company; they are all very connected. I honestly couldn't recommend HostGPO more. You will move fast, learn a lot, and end every day feeling accomplished and supported.

Cons

Just like any job, the fast-paced environment can sometimes lead to long hours, high workloads, and shifting priorities. Just know your limit, and tell the team - they actually listen and will help!
