Poor Upper Management

Pros

Great products and co-workers are nice for the most part.

Cons

Beware of bad apples in upper management. One in particular. Ever since this person came on board, company culture has gone downhill. Most people have experienced awkward encounters with her. She speaks down to employees and will belittle you in front of others. She'll say things that rub you the wrong way because she lacks the proper communication skills that should be required for her role. The worst part is that she probably doesn't even realize it. When you have someone with these characteristics at the VP level, especially someone who has the power to terminate employees, it significantly affects quality of life at the workplace. You feel like you need to walk on eggshells around her or you risk losing your job being on her bad side.

Pros

high quality products there are parties sometimes there's fancy oat milk in the fridge once or twice they gave free pizza for lunch

Cons

When I took this job I thought the reviews on here were just people being dramatic but let me tell you... this is the most mentally and psychologically abusive job I have ever had. As others have stated, those in Director/ Executive Director/ VP roles are pure EVIL and sad excuses for human beings. Never have I worked with such petty grown women constantly gossiping... you are supposed to be a leader, not putting others down in order to lift yourself up. These miserable women are constantly trying to make others feel bad about their work, outfits, personal life choices, etc. All things that should be left out of the work place but I'm assuming their home lives are so miserable that this is all they have. Moving on from the sad miserable 40 year old women who work here, let's talk about the benefits (lol) literally don't bother, I hope you're married because it sucks. You also don't get 401k matching because why should your company invest in you. Also, no company perks except for fake summer Fridays. Bonus structure is a joke, way under industry standard. NO room for growth. Let me clarify, if you know how to play the game you will get promoted but actual hard work or talent doesn't matter here.

Pros

Coffee and Tea are provided

Cons

Benefits are absolutely ASININE which reflects on how the company truly values their employees. No 401K match and below average medical coverage. But no worries because the two annual parties they have every year (costing $$$$) is completely necessary and makes up for it because who needs a retirement fund anyway? People here, especially those in Executive/Director positions are so SHADY. They will smile to your face and literally talk about you the second you leave the room. Unless you are kissing their behind, they have no intention to help you improve. I've personally witnessed this petty and high school behavior happen over a dozen times and it's disgusting. These 40+ year olds need to act according to their age/role. These people are not true leaders and it's a shame to have them be the example here. Opportunities for growth here are minimal. Doesn't matter how many hours you put in or people you please, because it's all subjective here. I've never worked somewhere where people were not recognized for their hard work or improvements but it happens a lot here. Workflow and processes could definitely be improved but again, you have people in high positions deciding what workflows work best yet aren't giving others the encouragement or opportunity to implement changes or improvements. People that have been here for years still don't understand whats going on and there is a major lack of accountability here. Customs and Values - HOURGLASS COSMETICS DOES NOT ADVOCATE FOR INCLUSIVITY. It has been made clear by the CEO that broadening their range for complexion products is NOT a concern for them or a priority. This is not okay.
