Pros

1. The principals and partners are very intelligent, nice and fun to work with. 2. You can take the skills you learn at HRG to any company. 3. Since the company is small (<20 people) you get to work on a bit of everything. This can also be a con since there isn't much staff to split the work. 4. HRG is well known in the MMM industry; however, there are also many innovative competitors. Most, if not all, of them are on the non-compete you will sign on your first day of working at HRG.

Cons

1. Rules. Rules. Rules. Every time Sean Rice becomes upset over an issue, he creates a new rule, effective immediately. The other reviews are true - no cell phones, frowned-upon internet usage, kitchen duty, the list goes on. He runs the office like a dictatorship - only his opinions matter. 2. High turnover rate. The reason for this is because employees find better opportunities at other companies. 3.The technology is outdated. Computers are slow, and there is a constant need to ask for more server space, which is difficult since IT is outsourced to a different company. There is an employee who also does IT, but he only works part time, and most of his time is allocated to serving Sean Rice's personal needs (eg: making menus and installing TVs in his house). 4. The office is located in Tarrytown, which does not have much to offer in terms of lunch options or after work happy hour locations.

Pros

All analysts are right out of college so at least the environment is young. You learn SPSS and excel within a few months.

Cons

Since management all started out as analysts and returning to grad school is not encouraged, all the bad management techniques got passed down throughout the years to the current management. Project timelines not managed well which means really long hours for analysts for weeks at a time. Also since there is such high turnover, projects are understaffed and you can be thrown on different projects at last minute with little clue as to what is going on. Strict rules make analysts feel like children: cell phones must be kept in cars, having to buy kitchen groceries, clean whiteboards, and having the time you entered the office written down everyday. Mangers have to tell you you can leave and don't let you know what time that will be so it makes having a life after work pretty challenging. The work is also extremely repetitive with each quarterly update. Very little is done to improve company culture since CEO sets the negative tone of the company.

Pros

Very solid Excel experience - went from beginner to solid intermediate Excel user in first 6 months, you can use this job to learn pretty much everything short of VBA if you want to. Work with legacy clients who have some of the largest marketing budgets around, end up getting decent exposure to their strategic thinking at the analyst level Most managers are smart people who want you to succeed, though some are known to be indecisive which can definitely work against you in crunch time

Cons

Sean Rice - his breathing will make you cringe by the end of your first week. He is a caricature of wealth. Makes male analysts carry his eccentric purchases to and from his car - imported butter, petrified wood decorations, metal sculptures. One of the least socially aware people I've ever met. He will just start violently screaming through the office seemingly at no one. Makes absolutely disgusting and downright legally liable comments about women in the office - e.g. suggesting potential stripper names for some of the women in the office. A man who hasn't heard the word "no" in 25 years. Hours and hours are spent appeasing him, he assumes that everyone working at HRG is also his personal employee. Made one of the IT guys spend what must have been a week designing a menu for a dinner party he was throwing. Analysts have to do "kitchen duty" where you go out and buy cups, milk, etc for the office, also have to answer the phone when the office manager is away from her desk. Hardly any effort put into maintaining employee morale, most people don't want to be there and it's very obvious Hours can get pretty long in the week or two before client presentations.
