Pros

Not your normal 9-5 job, but in a good way. You will never have a dull day. A lot of laughing. You are talking about dating and relationships, clients are relatively nice and excited about dating. A lot of the team is fun, feels like a sorority. Money is good when you are making it. Remote work. Incentives. Knowledge that you will never learn anywhere else (training used to be very good before the pandemic). Most of the matchmakers care for the clients and there have been numerous engagements and relationships forming out of the old model.

Cons

CEO is not involved. There is a lot of turnover. Leadership compares sales directors and makes it a competition without understanding how it plays into the toxic work environment. If you challenge the structure from 1990, expect to hear, "maybe this is not a fit for you." Even if you deal well with stress, this job can break you emotionally. Especially at the end of the month, you might find yourself working extra hours. Although there are great sales directors selling ethically with genuine care for the clients, there are a few "top" directors who oversell clients because they can (same perks given for members paying the normal price, not a different service offered). This is great for sales, but not for ethical matchmaking which IJL should provide considering client fees are not small. You will see weird matches being made because "It's just lunch" and it's low pressure (most of the dates are actually after work, not lunch). This is where it feels bad professionally, the clients hire IJL to be selective. Most of these clients are really busy and shelling out thousands of dollars for a service because it's too hard or stressful to do alone. I personally feel this is the biggest low point of the job.

Pros

Work from home with little to no supervision throughout the day. Was nice to not be micromanaged.

Cons

Everything . Toxic work culture, unattainable goals, scamming hard working vulnerable people. Long hours. Must work night and weekends if you want to make quota as a new rep. High turnover .

Pros

Room for creativity + highly communicative role If you’re interested in business development or marketing you have the opportunity to gain experience here if you’re willing to put in extra work. At Elite Private Search/IJL Select, brand management is extremely important. You manage contracts and help clients reach their goals which is challenging and rewarding.

Cons

Technology investment is not a priority which makes efficiency and sales support unnecessarily labor intensive. Training is minimal so you have to be a quick study. Benefits are minimal to none, and you are consistently expected to work after hours making it difficult to maintain a healthy balance. High turn over rate, I saw the entire office (manager, client service representatives, sales directors) flip twice in one year. Observable inequity between racial background and attraction of employees; I really hate to say this and I hope this has changed. If you’re a person of color and not considered above average in physical attraction, prepare to earn corporate and management trust. Physical attraction is taken into consideration for certain roles. Being involved in corporate hiring conversations, some hiring managers directly address if a candidate has the right “look”. I’ve seen attractive caucasian women neglect their job role with impunity and avoid termination for months. I’ve also seen poor work performance from someone of color resulting in termination within days. There is no “HR”, so if you confide in the COO who acts as an HR point of contact, do expect all confidential concerns to be communicated directly to your manager. All corporate employees are based in Minneapolis which creates an exclusive relationship. If you’re hired in corporate office, there’s a good chance you will get a title change in a few years. Otherwise, don’t expect a title change. There are a couple sales directors and client service advisors of 10+ years that have not received a title change. Compensation is based on sales and performance metrics, so expect to work overtime if you want to increase your earnings.
