Pros

Opportunity to learn about a new industry. Relaxed dress code. Most colleagues are supportive and helpful.

Cons

Owner seems to be making it up as they go. They lack basic management skills and professionalism which will directly impact you and make your job much more difficult. Instructions given to you are often vague and contradictory. Company policy and direction can change frequently without explanation or even notification. You must constantly press to get real answers and sometimes you will never get them. A big part of the job is to make up for the owner’s incompetence and lack of work ethic. You spend most days hoping they don’t become involved in your project because you want it to go smoothly. When their decisions go wrong, they blame others while you deal with the consequences. Critical feedback is met with a dismissive attitude or meaningless slogans. You can also be fired at the convenience of the owner even if you meet your goals. Despite some big talk, you won’t feel like a respected employee and your hard work isn’t rewarded as promised. Turnover is high for a reason. Stay away.

Pros

Good industry to be in, Can learn a lot of skills (from your own initiative) Company pays on time Very international work environment

Cons

Sub-par salary, advertised as commission based but that is not the case, Non existent training, High Turnover - Staff seen as expendable Many company rules that negatively affect staff morale (working Christmas and Japanese holidays), having to come straight back to the office after long-haul flights from Europe and US.

Pros

Casual attire, international office environment, interesting work (if you're self-motivated), springboard to something better.

Cons

No guidance. Orientation was a trial by fire. Training was on-the-go and not comprehensive. Goals were never clear. Criteria for accepting or writing up a project were inconsistent. Project mishaps or errors were on the project lead, even if caused by executive decisions. Management failed to retain talented staff for an extended time, and granted you the bare minimum that labor law required, sometimes less. Project staff feedback was often deflected, ignored, or simply rejected. Discussion of increase in benefits or pay/bonuses was taboo. The President as well as the CEO demonstrated poor managerial skill, sometimes even causing expensive legal trouble that was taken out of bonuses. The company is family-owned, and in spite of general success from project staff, employees were fired, bonuses were slashed and pay raises were limited. If management is looking for areas to cut, perhaps they should reconsider the salaries they're giving themselves. I see a ceiling put over the company on purpose by management, as any employee who gains enough experience to request better conditions was either fired or quit out of frustration. It's best to steer clear.
