Avoid at ALL COSTS

Pros

- Unlimited time off* - Regularly available snacks *they say "within reason", but in reality it's whenever it's convenient to the boss

Cons

- Archaic view of marketing and advertising. They recycle the same web designs, templates and copy formats to maximize their profit and give their clients minimum effort - Money comes first, everything else is second. If you like working with clients and developing good relationships, avoid this business. Mitch has a short fuse and is quick to drop a client if he disagrees with their business model or political views - Horribly underpaid and overworked. They expect you to work 45+ hours while making next to nothing - Terrible office culture. Coworkers gossip and stab each other in the back to get ahead. In the year I worked there, we were a company of 17-18 people and fired or let go 7 or more of them. That is unacceptable. - Standards change arbitrarily to benefit management. Managers say that one thing is okay one week, then completely change their mind the next and act like you're stupid for not knowing. It's confusing, demoralizing and immature.

Pros

It was nice to have “unlimited time off”, but that flexibility changed and shifted depending on the owners’ view of you.

Cons

I started working here right out of college and knew something was up when I was lowballed for my salary. At first, the job seemed fine. I’d write blog posts a few times a week, do an assignment here and there, keep my head down, and go on with my day. But something started to change once I took a few days off. Management acted like I did something horrible, and after that, things weren’t the same. The creative assignments dried up. I had to have everything reviewed by my the content team leader before I could publish it. I even walked in on my entire team talking negatively about me. Why would I want to go to work if my whole team was up for treatment like that? Eventually I was disciplined about my lunch breaks (which I’d get shamed for because I wouldn’t eat at my desk). I was attacked for leaving at 5 every day because I had an hour long commute. The strangest part about working there was the way they approached assignments. All the sites were basically templates and all of the copy seemed to flow in the same format on every page (“at *brand name*, we ______”). If I had a dollar for every time I had to turn in an assignment that broke a rule I learned in school, I’d probably be paid more than I was working at Ignite. The company changed the site, logo, and employees like they were seasons. In my time there, 15 of the 25 people that worked there were fired, quit, or were let go mysteriously. We lost a myriad of clients as well due to Mitch (the owner) and his stubborn, bullheaded behavior. All in all, this job was like getting in a toxic relationship. You don’t know what’s wrong and no matter how hard you try to change it, it stays awful. Once you’re finally in a new relationship, you realize that, yes, this is how normal people are treated. And boy does it feel good.

Horrible experience from start to finish

Pros

One time we got a free meal? I think?

Cons

Where do I start? - This job is a trap for entry level employees. Expect to be overworked, underpaid, and treated terribly from your first day to your last. - The management is clueless, punishing the hard-working and rewarding the mediocre. I was so far ahead of schedule on my work that they had me assemble IKEA furniture for an entire shift. - Expect an incredibly high turnover rate. The company was ~20 people when I left and at least 70% of them had been fired, quit, or let go. - Your voice does NOT matter here. Whether you've got a brilliant idea or you want to improve on your abilities, you will learn nothing that you couldn't easily pick up online or in college. - The office politics reminds me of a high school. If someone is disliked, group chats will be started to make fun of them. I caught my own manager making fun of my appearance to my coworkers and the most I got was a half-hearted apology. - The culture is just rotten. Irredeemably rotten. I have no other words to describe how much this company made me doubt myself creatively, professionally, and personally.
