Pros

They support disabled youth in getting an education with universities across Edmonton. They support the search for accessible jobs in Edmonton.

Cons

All of their training around disability is engaging with stuff written by their white men founders. In the world of disability theory there is an incredible amount of work and thought by Disabled WOMEN OF COLOUR that this company simply ignores. They really promote "traditional values" when it comes to what a life path should be - university marriage and then children. This disallows conversation around other experiences that don't follow that path. Very underpaid and overworked. Lack of acknowledgement around intersectionality- other experiences otuside of what they deem as the 'norm'. Everyone I worked with felt overworked, underpaid and undervalued. They didn't actually provide any specific training for the hands on emotionally serving role I was hired for expecting me to 'learn on the job'

Pros

-amazing people within & connected to the organization -opportunities to reflect and improve -good work/life balance

Cons

-biggest one is pay. This is not a wage many can live off for very long, and there is no room for upward mobility. This leads to high turnover as employees do not feel they are paid for the work they do -work can be draining, you need to be emotionally resilient -upper management can be a bit much -confusing and contradictory values of the organization at times

Pros

The values the organization is based on are excellent, and their mission is important. Coworkers are excellent. There are lots of opportunities for learning. Schedule can be flexible

Cons

high turnover, micromanaging, lack of meaningful support from leadership. The actual decisions and guidance from leadership in relation to the people they support don't reflect the values they say the organization has. They are not a supportive workplace for people with invisible disabilities There is a lack of diversity in leadership, and there is a refusal to recognize that the organization needs implicit bias and racial sensitivity training.
