Cons
The administration does not care about the incarated or the staff who are there to rehabilitate them. Had a coworker get killed and the lack of response by the warden was the last straw for me. If you can get passed that, the next huge issue is the turn over rate and constant understaffed shifts.
During my time as an officer at ISP the pros compared to other facilities is time off. Working 6 months out of the year allots for time to work life balance.
Unlimited over time is also a good attribute.
Very few mandatory over times. The Lt's and Captains always tried to make a way for staff to be relieved from duty on time.
Cons
Understaffing, there is a high turnover rate, so a lot of times there will be more pressure on staff.
