Pros

People at IAPS are great and I love the work here. Seriously, although I know this review is going to sound like I'm astroturfing. There's a very open culture of discussion and feedback which is critical since the issues that IAPS wrestles with as a think tank - basically anything to do with the security of frontier AI systems - are often confusing and open-ended. But some of the other organizations I've worked at previously have really had a culture of anxiety/fear and I'm deeply grateful to IAPS for being on the total opposite end of that spectrum. People here are really smart, and they do have their opinions and you have to be ready to defend your policy arguments/positions, but I think everybody has a common interest in doing good and making sure the organization as a whole succeeds. (And that you succeed as an individual too!)

Cons

IAPS is still young, and so doesn't yet have the sway in DC of some more established policy think tanks like CSIS or RAND - but I've seen the org grow a lot over the past few years and really believe it's going to do great things. (Also, sometimes it sucks to deal with multiple timezones and a lot of Slack traffic, but that's the price you pay for being a remote-first org!)
