There is no other place like Inwood. The residents and employees are simply invaluable to anyone.

Non profit companies can be a challenge to work for money wise.

Pros

Leadership have a vision and hope for the future of the Organization. The 183 year history and mission have been nurtured through the years. The pool of talent here is exceptional and overall mid and senior management are driven to produce and continue to be internally motivated to provide quality services to clients.

Cons

Though Leadership has a vision, it is not clearly thought through strategically nor communicated with the entire agency. There is limited accountability and follow through for staff top down and often the blame game is played rather than working together on solutions.

One of the most poorly run agencies I have ever worked for!

Pros

The best parts of Inwood House are its mission and history. The agency has played a critical role historically in NYC helping to educate, support and empower young women to take charge of their lives. The newly renovated/rebuilt facilities are state-of-the-art!

Cons

Executive leadership of the agency is the main problem. While there is a committed Board, they are not overseeing leadership adequately. Executive leadership is more focused on self promotion than on fundraising. The agency has been suffering from financial challenges for many years resulting in multiple rounds of lay offs. Executive leadership has not led by example, not taken pay cuts, and not been transparent. Many staff are dedicated but lack adequate training and resources. While targeted program goals and measures exist, they are rarely met. Development staff have been micro-managed for years and have been forced to report inaccurate results. While all agencies put a positive spin on their program, this agency regularly report erroneous results. Staff morale is quite negative. Departments often do not cooperate with each other. Some executive leadership in the past has been abusive, yelling and cursing at staff. Only staff loyal to executive leadership are promoted.
