Pros

Decent pay, friendly coworkers, mature

Cons

An institutional lack of accountability in terms of people management. In the worst cases managers who bully/are abusive are never held accountable despite well known issues being repeatedly being raised by multiple sources to management, HR, etc. Incredibly talented and dedicated people have had their careers completely destroyed at this company. It happens FAR too often. HR is not involved enough to know the difference, or worse, too weak to challenge.

Pros

Experience working in an interesting industry Lots of opportunities to move around the company Salaries generally good for the region although less than what you might expect A lot of good people work here.

Cons

Company is run by Draconian style management system where fear and abusive discipline is used to 'motivate the people' Considering the profit margins, they are a frugal company in terms of pay and perks. Very poor technology. Archaic systems and the newer ones are generally poorly implemented. Workloads are unevenly distributed. Many people working jobs that are redundant and vehemently averse to change. In most parts of the company, there's a very big social influence that determines your success. From senior management down to the worker bees, it's commonplace to hear gossip about another employee the moment they leave the room. Because of the management style, most employees are bred to want to see each other fail instead of succeed. Also not particularly proud of the decisions the company makes, or how they market themselves to the public as major contributors to the community and environment . The company makes no decisions that negatively impact their bottom line and there are thousands of examples of how they do business with no regard for their surrounding environment. Company generally has a 'you should be happy we employ you' type of attitude with employees. Overall it's just a negative work environment and I wouldn't recommend anybody actively seeking employment here unless you're specifically trained in the industry and need to stay in the maritimes. I feel bad for young professionals that get sucked into this corporate environment and think that this is how work life is. The only thing that kept me here so long was that I was constantly moving around the company and seeing different parts of the business so the stagnating corporate culture took a while to set in.
