Pros

Besides management, the majority of people that work there are good people to work with.

Cons

The owner only cares about the bottom line and has no idea how to manage his employees. People in the industry think he is very sleazy. There is a high turnover rate. You are expected to work more than 40 hours per week.

Pros

I really liked some of the people there. But after I was fired I never heard from those people again. I guess that I was demonized after I got the boot by the boss, because that's the kind of guy he is. Salary is probably OK for most. But I wasn't paid even the minimum of what they're now offering to replace me. Despite the boss, it was a fun place to work, because of SOME of the other employees.

Cons

It's a high overhead office, lots of admin salaries that need to be paid, as well as the mortgage for the new building. The boss spends his time marketing, not managing his employees. Expect to be all alone on an island with no help from the boss and with clients constantly reminding you about your high billable rate, although all your going to see is pennies on the dollar of that high billable rate. The long-time employees have it pretty cushy there. They don't work weekends, but you will, and how! Don't expect a decent work space, those go to the lifers. Getting a weekend off was tough. If you're not a lifer, expect to have to beg to use vacation time. That's only after everybody else has taken theirs. My one week of vacation time worked out to me working 2 of the 5 days and dealing with e-mails and phone calls the remaining 3 days. That's how it goes for the non-lifers.

Pros

Working at J2 has been a very rewarding experience. Every employee, from the CEO down, is extremely accessible and willing to help with questions about unique projects. The management really encourages employees to stretch their wings and see what more skills and resources could be brought to the business. The office is dog friendly, which helps with general morale. Benefits & the 401k plans are pretty cushy. This is written during quarantine, and J2's visible efforts to keeping everyone employed and busy are a welcome thing in an uncertain time. If you want a stable job in a friendly office space with regular construction site visits, this is the place for you.

Cons

Working remotely is generally not allowed (quarantine being the big exception). The company has a fairly fast VPN & recently adopted Microsoft Teams, which allows pretty streamlined inter-company remote communication. Allowing employees to work remotely a couple days a week would be welcome.
