Pros

The hourly wage is great! You also have a LOT of freedom to make decisions.

Cons

Major changes are constantly being made and staff are not notified. The owner will promise you full time hours, then string you along until you accept working part-time. The only training provided is the 40-hour RBT training course that you do online, but the course doesn't begin to teach you what you will need to know when you start working with clients. No ongoing training except for 3-4 visits per week from the LaBA (who isn't actually being supervised by the BCBA). I only saw the BCBA once a month if I was lucky and when she showed up, all she did was confuse staff and parents by talking about procedures and concepts that weren't relevant to the client. The owner also uses a multi-disciplinary approach, and since starting at a new ABA company, I've learned that her approach violates several ethical codes because it is often not behavior analytic in nature. I would say the worst part about working here was the communication--which wasn't even bad, it just didn't exist. She opened a clinic and nobody knew about it until she started relocating staff there. Even then, not even the supervisors understand what is going on in that location. The lack of communication also means that the staff (myself included) have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

Pros

Great pay - the highest I've seen from any ABA company in the area.

Cons

- Unstable employer - Poor communication - Manipulation and game playing with employees for owner to get what they want -Making expectations then immediately changing them without notice - Major ethical concerns - Outright providing false information to families about clients progress - Telling families they need 30-40 hrs a week of ABA when they don't. - Making ABA programs without adequate data collection and/or baseline assessments - Poor scheduling and/or very short notice on changes to schedule - Inadequate supervision

Pros

The pay is above average

Cons

You dont get paid for holidays unless you take your own PTO. There is no compensation for drive time, even if its over 45 minutes each way. There is very little communication or training or access to materials for session use. My supervisor and the administrative staff would not answer texts or emails in a reasonably timely manner, or not at all. My supervisor constantly promised me materials but never delivered. There is very little training for BTs in general. There is a 40 hour, two week crash course to get certified but after that you are thrown to the wolves. The supervisors have weekly visits but teach very little and have little patience with those who do not speak the ABA jargon or have earned higher education degrees. Some of the methods used by BCBAs seem border-line abusive and unethical. When I refused to participate with these methods, I was given very little support by my supervisors. I was sidelined for a job when I asked for a schedule change to accommodate my college class schedule. I gave several months advance notice but was told, literally on my last day with my client, that they had no jobs for me at all unless I was willing to drive an extra two hours a day without compensation.
