Pros

JJ Food can be a starting place for you if you don't have any work experience in UK or if you wish to work in flexible hours.

Cons

I worked in this company for more than 8 years in one of the central departments in a close relationship with all departments and branches. JJ Food is a literally a soul darkening place to work. It is a place where you can lose your all values and the sense of solidarity, kindness, compassion, emphatic skills and team spirit. You are not appreciated by the management at all and there is a high level of blaming culture in the company. It is a place where you are not motivated, supported, inspired or encouraged to do even better but often criticised, underestimated, bullied, treated like a slave and never valued. In JJ Food you hit the glass ceiling especially if you are a female. Most of the management has a high level of ego and never allow you to raise your full potential to be creative or to show your unique skills. Bullying, discrimination and harassment is unfortunately a general culture. Human Resources department is with full of under qualified members with limited experiences and working like the police department of the CEO mostly to finalise the disputes for the benefit of the company. No consideration of the employee's health and well-being. The CEO has an old school mentality with a small business man's mind from middle age. The management follows his one-man culture mostly because of fear to lose their job and suppress their subordinates as a result. A majority of the management either doesn't have the required qualification, experience and a good character to run a team or they are freshly graduated newbies who doesn't know anything about to raise a team with a productive attitude. It is all about making a high profit there, turning the owner, MK, even richer with a less and unequal pay between the members. I ended up here with more than 1 year sick leave due to the tremendous damage of the CEO, HR and some of the other management's careless, selfish and unprofessional mental and emotional abuse. JJ can be just a bus stop to stay there for a short period of time to have a job experience on your CV. The longer you stay in this company, the darker your heart become and you always struggle to pay your bills with a peace of mind.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your detailed review. We would like to respond to a few of the points that you raised. First of all, we’d like to thank you for highlighting our flexible working hours as a benefit. We understand that many staff members have families and commitments at home and we do our best to accommodate that. Thank you for noticing that many of our employees are graduates. It’s true – we like to attract young talent and give them all the opportunities to progress. Many of our managers actually started in sales and purchasing roles. We like to think that our managers have stayed with us for many years because we have supported their career progression, sharing advice and best practice along the way. We also have plenty of free training available. JJ Foodservice is one of the founding supporters of Women in Wholesale, which is a project to inspire, support and progress female talent at all levels working in the industry. We were also the first UK wholesaler to launch a ‘Warehouse Women’ campaign to attract more diversity into our warehouses. We are keen to attract and retain talent regardless of gender, nationality or anything else. We pride ourselves on being a truly multi-cultural and diverse business. We’re not perfect but like to think we are moving in the right direction. Some of our employees may have rather large ‘egos’, as you have stated, however we will always do our best to prevent our team members from being subjected to verbal or physical abuse even from some of our long term employees. You are also right about us making a profit, we have to make some profit in order pay salaries, open new branches etc – that’s generally how businesses work. We were pleased to be able to continue paying you when you took a year off sick and hope that you feel better now. We are sorry that you left us after eight years, but due to our commitment to protect the welfare of our staff we will not be able to accept future applications from yourself. Thanks

Hello there, thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that some of our customers have been rude to you – if you can provide us with more detail on who the businesses were we would be very happy to follow up with them. We value the well-being of all our employees, particularly drivers who are the ‘face’ of our business. We are a family friendly company and do our best to support employees every way that we can, including offering part-time and shift work, paid holidays, a pension, childcare vouchers and more. We wish you the best of luck in your career.
