Pros

Social events (when management made the effort to acknowledge you)

Cons

This team is probably the worst team I have worked for because of Management. Management sit in the office with air pods in. With an open door policy this is far from. Management create their own impression of you from the start. My CV was discussed approx. 2 weeks into the job and discussed over a meeting which seemed like another interview? No matter what you do or how hard you try if they do not like you, they do not like you. Being called into meetings with no prior notice is hardly acceptable. To then say this should not happen going forward, yet it still happens, goes to show that you are not valued. I was warned about management the day I started but if management listened (and did not sit there in their office with air pods in) they would take on the feedback and improve. On my final day management did not say goodbye, wish me good luck or even acknowledge me. I would not be surprised if racism was at the heart of his disgraceful ways.

Poor retention of juniors

Pros

The firm has a knack for hiring really nice people. It's not an overly corporate environment (though the cultural identity does need work).

Cons

Pay lags behind the firms that JMW sees itself as competing with in some fields. Wider benefits package isn't very generous. Junior turnover is high, and that's coming to be known in the market. Make sure you make enquiries about new starters and departures before accepting an offer! For a firm that generally favours in person attendance, the office space isn't as good as you'll find in other firms. The firm has been slow to commit to investment in infrastructure, namely improving IT systems. Billing and accounting processes are a bit cumbersome. Very late to the party on D&I.

Unwelcoming and overworking culture

Pros

Fast paced environment which means quicker learning experiences. My teams were nice to work with. Good location.

Cons

Low wages compared to the current market. Overtime expected every week, on weekends and on bank holidays. No option to get your time back which means work life balance is very poor. Management don’t listen to their team. Understaffed. Staff are rude. Flexible hours in your contract mean YOU have to be flexible. Man eat man culture. No certifications provided. No remote working or very little opportunity to.
