Working the IT department was the worst career decision I ever made.
Pros
I enjoyed the Comped meals and the discounts at the coffee shop. Out on the casino floor you can run into all kinds of celebrities.
Cons
Low pay as compared to comparable jobs in town, and no pay difference for someone who has eight years IT experience versus someone who has zero. Getting woken up in the middle of the night for nonemergencies like password resets. Upper management is incapable of having a calm, rational, respectful conversation with someone regarding performance and instead prefers to yell and curse at employees. HR will not speak to you directly (you have to go through your manager) and they will fight to not honor any agreements in your offer letter. High turnover in the department as compared to other IT departments. Nepotism.
