Pros

The minimum wage staff are lovely and hardworking, there are so many unique cultures all in one place so you can learn so much outside of the European centric mindset you might have.

Cons

I really couldn't even tell you where to start on this, but I can say that the higher management is nasty, spiteful, and toxic. If you are not Japanese and in a position lower than middle management you /will/ be treated like dirt, your hours will be bottom priority even if they end up being much lower than your contracted hours. The company is a machine that is oiled with the blood of it's worked and oh boy will you bleed, the work is back breaking and long, it's tiring to be stood on your feet all day and the management will still look down their nose at you. We also had a case of a man sexually harassing women, he has multiple victims (probably every woman in my department at least!) he made horrid comments on girls younger than his daughter and seemed to be unable to look higher than your face for more than five minutes, despite many complaints nothing was done. Indecent images were also sent to other staff members by another worker and nothing was done. The customers will also treat you badly, I was left crying while being berated for not serving dim sum (despite being a Japanese place.....) while managers looked on in indifference. Told not to smile at my other coworkers since it was bad for business Was refused water while on shift since "it wasn't summer so why do you need it"

Pros

free lunch (but fairly limited options) staff discounts which make things normal price as the market

Cons

always have to do more than what you were told to do most of the staff are lazy AF, so if you work hard you'll want to quit soon, like me they might secretly cut out your working hours if you don't pay enough attention on it non of the managers in Japan centre is JAPANESE team leaders are the most useless people, and the company just let them be

Pros

Staff bonding was strong, no matter how horrible the company was. The team members excluding managers work well and stick up with each other when things were bad.

Cons

Where do I start, When I first come to the company I was happy to find something interesting, learning about Japanese culture and it seemed like a place I would like to work in to gain more experience but over the time the place gets worst and worse. First thing when coming into the company was that the pay was horrible until the big changes a few months later from 7.31 to 8 pounds(Which was even a hassle as they didn’t even want to high the pay rise and thought the money before was okay for us….. and with that took the 75 percent discount to now 20 percent and we couldn’t eat the counter food only the staff lunch which was not nice, no passion, no soul….) but I will more complain that they will make you work long hours, (to add there... only get 30 minutes of break no matter if you work more than 8 hours) to find out you did even get the right paycheck at the end of the month. It really made a lot of people upset and what made things worse was that they expected people to get the missing money the next month. Like we Humans, we have family, bills, yourself to support. The company doesn’t follow the British rules and think they are in Japan, the way they treat the staff but also how things run. The many health hazards I keep finding. I am surprised the place hasn’t been shut down. The general staff care about the customers and giving them the best experience that's in hospitality and sales. However, I feel the company is more on how to make more profit, even quick money and lost the passion for what was originally wanted when it first started. I feel the company is a con. The management is….. I don’t even know what to say about them, only the fact why are they in management? Is because they either Japanese in the sense they friends with other higher management (I wouldn’t discriminate all Asians but saying that if you don’t have the skills, know how the company run, etc then why are you part of the management) I see people who I barely been in the company get on top but people who been working in the company longer to make everything works and they get nothing even a chance to get promoted and if they do - they get horrible pay and someone who might be friends with the management get more than them. It's NOT FAIR! They never follow the pay guide, always different pay for different people which was unfair, I barely speak about my pay as it’s no one business but of course people will talk and even had to discuss my situation with management about my pay as it was wrong. The starting pay was 8 pounds, then 8.25 when pass probation then 8.75 for specialist and 9.00 can’t remember for and then 9.50 for team leader…. And then the salary base for supervisor upwards but I keep founding out some new people were getting 9 pounds which again is unfair. What’s the point having a paid guide if you can’t follow it. There is no communication at all, it’s really bad to point sometime you come in a day and something was changed and customers might mention it and you had no clue about it or the fact you find out from another colleague. They don’t treat staff well mentally and physically and to top that we get into trouble for things that I am like okay then… questionable but there are far more people I know who done worst and then get away with it. They don’t care about you and even with a doctor note you still get a record of improvement. We are not dogs or Robot, we humans, remember we work for you guys to make the company better, if not then… you just going to get a lot of bad reviews or people going to get angry or worst you not going to have anyone running the store. I know my review or suggesting will not help the company but hopefully help people who want to know.
