Pros

One of the only cosmetic companies in the east Bay Area.

Cons

-practically NOONE has cosmetic experience, including their CEO - corporate culture is unprofessional (i.e. Running around like chickens with their heads cut off because their neurotic ceo does it and they think they need to as well, last minute fires to put out EVERY week due to incompetence and poor planning/vision/leadership) - Every single person there talks and gossips behind everyone else's back. People talked to much negative stuff about their VP, their old CFO, and even claim that their CEO has affairs with most of their vendors. - It's a clique-environment. You're either in the clique or you're not. And you will know it based on the junior high school level of maturity and professionalism that is displayed there. - They break just about every sexual harassment, racist and generally unethical ways to speak rules out there. - The only way to move up is if you're willing to suck up your pride and integrity and just lie through your teeth in agreement with all of the horrible decisions made by the company. Regularly.

Pros

-Really nice employee discount -A handful of kind people who were helpful/made an otherwise screwed workplace more tolerable. -Full benefits after 3 months

Cons

-Everyone here is overworked and stressed. if you come here under one job title expect to really be taking on 2-3 other positions too. I'm honestly floored no one has had a nervous breakdown. They have about a team of 14-15 doing enough work designed for a company of 40. No one seems happy...and many of the employees do not see themselves staying here for more than 2 years. Don't even get me started on the turnover rate. They expect want cristal on a PBR budget. -"Management" here is awful. A good 95% of the employees have some sort of 1st world drama at any given time, that they make everyone's business through melodramatic arguments/discussions in the office. In addition to this since everyone is best buddies they frequently talk about work outside of work and things that shouldn't be discussed AT work...in the office. During my time here I heard a former employee get called a "r----d" on numerous occasions. Curse words were frequently used in the office as well. I get that things get frustrating, but keep that nonsense behind close doors. No one wants to hear about how drunk you got yesterday. -Nothing is ever good enough. Ever. Period. Even if you produce successful work with results to prove it...chances are you'll get a head nod followed by a "what else?" -No one will hold your hand or even assist you in getting certain tasks done. And if you do ask for help expect to get the runaround. EVEN if someone knows the answer they'll play the 'oh ask _____' game because they're "busy". -If you don't keep up you're gone. -The makeup itself and tools are fantastic, but for a company that has been around for over 30 years...you would expect them to have more to show for this. 9 out of 10 people have never heard of Japonesque. -For being in Northern California (the hub of innovation) they're incredibly dated. From their product packaging to their work from home policies. Plus they print out EVERYTHING. Apparently these people haven't heard of a little thing called 'google drives'. -If you love drama, constant screaming, being stressed out, wasting paper, having your intelligence questioned, and getting judgmental looks on a daily basis then this is the perfect company for you!

Pros

The majority of the employees are talented, hard-working, motivated, loyal and resilient. The employees under the CEO are the pillars of Japonesque and the true success to the profitability of the company but, the cons outweigh the PROS by far. There is room for advancement depending on your performance or loyalty to the CEO.

Cons

The majority of the cons come from the (I use the word loosely) leader 'aka' CEO. The company is an expression of their manic behavior and emotional instability. The CEO is epitome of someone who does not appreciate what they have and tries to portray an image (posting spiritual quotes on their social media) that is not authentic to how they treat their team. There is no support for working cohesively, building relationships, and communicating like mature human beings. Any sign of team work would spark an insecurity in the CEO which in turn cause them to pit employee against employee and create unnecessary drama by fabricating stories in an attempt to create distrust amongst the team. There is no in house human resource department so there is not a proper way to deal with any issues. Every now and then the CEO would try to bring the team together for warm fuzzy sessions just to turn around the next day and be the center of negativity and drama again. Inappropriate and unheeded conversations initiated by the CEO to 'chummy' up with the employees discussing their intimate affairs with multiple partners, 'close calls with terminal illnesses (completely unfounded) and discussions about family drama on work time. Training is informal and unstructured, you are need to either sink or swim, which makes for stronger employees but, also an extreme number of turnovers. Multiple empty promises from the CEO of advancement or updating systems that are outdated and technically challenged. I understand the need to continue to bring business in but, there is no mastery in the company in regards to projects or production since there is no time to complete things thoroughly due to the revolving priority lists that change daily.
