A Truly Honest Review

Pros

Reputable clients, interesting work, and the D.C. office is visually appealing. A generous amount of responsibility and hands-on work is given to Manger status employees.

Cons

This is one of most hostile work environments that I have ever been exposed to in my entire MR focused career. There are several senior employees that will truly invest their time and confidence in you, but a majority of the senior staff treats their colleagues and team members horribly. The CEO of this company often misses client meetings and dodges team calls, leaving KRC staff unprepared and frankly embarrassed. I can say on behalf of my colleagues that for the amount of work and overtime that we put in, we are sorely overworked, disappointed, stressed and face hostile verbal treatment far too often from a company affiliated with the overall impressive IPG network.

Frustrating

Pros

The DC office is great! Wonderful culture. Management is supportive and easy to work with. Everyone is happy and hard-working.

Cons

Upper management is located in a different state. CEO is unorganized and is not good at communicating with staff. He often cancels meetings and phone calls and responds to emails only occasionally. Lack of communication causes frustration. When anything does not play out as he expects, he is sends emails that are degrading and just down-right rude and condescending. He is always looking for someone to blame rather than working with his staff to find the best way to make things work or correct the obvious lack of communication.

Pros

At KRC, you get to do great work, regardless of your level. People of all levels do really interesting, compelling work for great clients. If you're interested in research, it's a great place to get your feet wet and experience a ton of different methodologies, industries, etc. We do work that really is on the cutting edge of research, and it's great to get exposure to so many different, new things. It's also wonderful to be part of the overall IPG corporate structure - working so closely with colleagues at sister PR firm Weber Shandwick provides endless opportunities for growth and new business.

Cons

Your experience at KRC is entirely dependent on who your manager is and who is managing your projects. Some managers are dreadful and work you to death, some are more caring and acknowledge that you'll want to have a life outside work. Overall, staff that leave before 6:15pm are given the "side-eye" for not working enough. Long, crazy hours are praised. Because it is such a small company, junior staff are given the work of senior staff, which is great for getting exposure to new things, but also means you're doing work well above your pay grade. It is almost impossible to work less than 55 hours a week - probably 5% of the staff actually takes a lunch break, and those who do are judged by coworkers. The office politics are really exhausting, and unless you constantly advocate for yourself, you'll get stepped on, forgotten about, or abused 9 out of every 10 times.
