Pros

Carrboro is a great little town.

Cons

I dedicated over three years of my career to a growing company that grew too fast due to nothing but greed fueled by sociopathic management tactics. This is not a home for artists. Artists are treated like machines. I was on the creative team and we called ourselves "art trolls" because that is how we were treated by our colleagues in the rest of the company. You will be asked to copy other artists' work, you will be told after working for 9 hours straight that you need to work harder by a manager who has been sending you blog posts and memes all day. They track your every move down to the minute. I have been sexually harrassed at this company, I have experienced discrimination because of my gender, I can only describe this environment as sexist and fear based. Women are afraid to speak up for themselves in meetings because the second they challenge a man's opinion, they WILL be targeted and pushed to quit or be fired. The only way to get a promotion is to babysit your boss's kids and tattle on your colleagues after a candid after-work drink. This job made me physically ill. I stayed for the health insurance, thinking I had no choice. 12 weeks after leaving, my health began to improve. I'll never make this mistake again.

Owner Rules Through Fear Based Tactics

Pros

The pros are only red herrings.

Cons

So many employees there have a problem with how they are treated but are scared to speak up because they think they will lose their jobs. And they are right! Although the employees will bend over backwards to succeed, they are still belittled by management. They will work overtime in stressful conditions without complaint, but when they aren't sitting at their desks in front of their computer at the exact moment the work day starts because they are still making coffee they are berated and scolded like children! I've never seen anything like it! Jesse Kalisher knows that there are very few opportunities to work in an environment that allows people to be immersed in art all day. He therefore takes complete advantage of his employees because he knows they'll either 1. Stay because they love art so much that they are willing to endure the toxic work environment or 2. Leave -- which he doesn't care if they do cause he can easily lure replacements in because the job seems so "sexy". I would give this place zero stars if it were an option.

Pros

- Working alongside talented, creative intellectuals - The ability to work with art regularly - Kalisher will hire you straight out of college

Cons

- Excessively micromanaged - Egotistical, inexperienced management - No room for growth- very little promoting within the company - Terrible compensation for the amount of work that is expected of you - I suggest you don't have a life outside of your employment - especially a family - The CEO is a narcissistic, misogynist that treats his employees very poorly and will belittle you and praise himself at every possible chance - If you prove to be proficient at the excessive workload, management will require you to work multiple job positions WITHOUT increasing your compensation - Hard work goes completely unrecognized
